sfc question
« on: February 22, 2008, 06:43:02 pm »
as you know when you get hit after you're shield are down you're warp core lose power.

what would be fun is that you have a warp core breach and must fix it before you're ship explode, or maybe ejected the warp core leaving you're ship without power and would be useless :)

so having a warp core breach would make it interesting, i know you can use the auto destruction to blow up you're ship, but that's not the point, the point is when you take damage you have a warp core breach and must repair it.

yes when you get it you lose power and fix it but you're warp care will not explode.

so its just an idea to make the game more interesting :)

Sounds cool.

Would there be an amount of damage a ship had to take beforehand so that the first strike didn't breach the core?

it should have, because if any hits you have do a core breach that would mean it was not stable.  ;D

so like 65% and up of damage before you get a warp core breach. sound good.

so is it possible to do that in the game?, or only if we have the code for the game?

i can't do it my self, just an idea to make the game more fun.  ;)

with source it would be very doable.  To do it in OP, I very much doubt it at this moment in time.

This would either be source code, or a custom mission script..

Since the source code is lost for OP...

the best thing would be to petition Nuclear Wessels or El Karnak to make a script (or a set of scripts) that would emulate this.

The source is truely lost to OP or the few who might have it haven't let it out?  A great shame if it truely was lost.  But then we could rebuild it from EAW I guess.

The only people who would have a copy of the OP source would be Eric Bethke .. he has not returned any emails from me and I think he does not have a copy.. left it behind when he went to Korea.

David Ferrell, the SFC patch guru told Frey that he can not find the OP Source anywhere in his backups.. it may turn up there 1 day.

Kenneth Yeast can not find his OP Source Code.

the holder of the code MagnumMan lost the OP Source.. he did give D.Net the EAW source code, but OP and EAW game have different programming architectures based on the same engine.. EAW Source will not work on OP.. both source codes are needed to port fixes back and forth... however a talented programmer can make EAW into what OP is currently, only without the 2nd level pirate race map. (maybe could add more races though)

D.Net currently holds the OP Server Kit Source Code, but that is useless on the client side of the game, it is only to help develop the server kit for use in flatfile mode or SQL mode.

The only thing I think we can expect for OP in the future is the Sprites.q3 editor that some people at Quicksilver Software have volunteered their free time to work on since the q3 file is their proprietary code. However the spritesq3 file only manages the images in the control panel on the left side of the screen.. it has no bearing on actual game play.. just eye candy.

Sorry to give ya that news

'tis a sad thing that OP is lost to the great bit bucket.

Guess that will just give a good reason for us all to work on EAW and make it the best game we can.  From what I have seen so far (but has been along time since I played EAW) with work it should be able to be turned into a great hybrid of EAW/OP.  Take the best of all we play and fix the wierd stuff.

A question on EAW code (if you have looked at it yet).  What is it programmed in? C, C++, something odd.
