Ad-aware SE new version
« on: February 16, 2008, 09:37:14 am »
Any Ad-aware SE (free version) users out there make the jump to the "new" version (2007 v 7.0.2.6) yet? They no longer support the older version as of the new year, but I've seen some reviews of the 2007 v7.0.2.6 stating that it now runs itself at startup and the interface is a bit less user friendly.

Any user opinions out there?

If what you are saying about Ad-Aware is true then I would dump Ad-Aware for A-Squared.  I think that A-Squared is a better program anyway.

True statements, 'Antman... At least there is some component service of the 2007 version that runs at startup.  The new version is a bit of a pig, too... Big & slow.

It's still really good at what it does.   Maybe the best, and you can't beat the price.

Ad-Aware does have a service that has to be on before you can start the program. so, if you disable the service from automatically starting up you can't runt he program. As for the interface, it works for me okay.
Only in America .....do we use the word 'politics' to describe the process so well: 'Poli' in Latin meaning 'many' and 'tics' meaning 'bloodsucking creatures'.

I use it once a day.. ad-aware 2007, On my Vista machine with User Account Control (UAC) turned off, it is very fast.. completes a 320 GB Hdd scan in about 15 min.. but then again I am running a Intel Core 2 Duo 1.8 Ghz with 4 Gb memory..

I have the Startup service set to Manual and it only kicks in when I launch the application..

I have also used the application with the service stopped, but it will not update with service stopped, nor will it save settings..

So what I do is when I launch the application, I let it scan, then in Task Manager, I stop the service after the Application is closed..

No problems so far..
"You still don't get it, do you?......That's what he does. That's all he does! You can't stop him! It can't be bargained with. It can't be reasoned with. It doesn't feel pity, or remorse, or fear. And it absolutely will not stop, ever, until you are dead!"
