Indeed ... Tus makes a good point. I have things on the Drawing Board that I'd love to see take advantage of whatever tweaks you guys have in mind. And of course, if the mod file format could see an update to more recent versions of MAX, that'd be great too. Not necessarily in my interest, but a Lightwave plugin could be helpful to many.
Source code is brilliant, but how goes progress on sprites.q3? Mr. Fisher hinted at some really cool features that would really work to our advantage there as well, such as transparencies, specularity effects, and limited texture animation. (with these things alone, my current planetpack could really get a visual boost ... nevermind what you could do with starships ...) With both the SC and the q3 being moddable, it would really open up the game to pretty much whatever your taste may be ... whether TOS or TNG in the UI department, for example ... perhaps these features could be taken advantage of via the SC rather than the q3???
(Although I seriously doubt the mod file format would support it, looking into whether model animations might be possible could be worth while. But again, it probably won't work due to format limitations ... just food for thought ...)
Adding specifically codded hardpoints/ Dummy Objects to models that handled certain features such as tractor beam emitters and shuttlecraft/fighter launch points would also really open up some possibilities, again, with planets in mind as well as bases and ships.
I'd also like to see a way to get rid of the yellow base color hard coded for phasers ... as it is, it's impossible to make real blue phasers ... how cool would it be to have a white or transparent base color which would allow for complete customization of the phaser section of FX1.bmp? The entire spectrum of colors could be used ... (nevermind a whole new bmp could be assigned to handle such a feature that would allow for further animated enhancement like the photon or plasma bmps ...)
Also can't help but hope that an EAW upgrade would work for online play in a Vista environment ... I miss blowing 'schtuff' up online ...
All in all ... Outstanding news! Glad to see confirmation!
Thanks,
JM.
