Planet Uranus model needed!!
« on: January 30, 2008, 09:17:49 pm »
I've been trawling through all the planets downloads on Battle Clinic and a few other quality shipyard site when I noticed that despite every planet of the Solar Sytem we live in being modeled, formMercury to Pluto and even some of the monns, nobody has done a model of Uranus!!

I've downloaded Neptune, but it just isn't the same really.

Now a whole Klingon battlefleet hiding in the great brown canyon on Uranus would look out of place to a Fed patrol, as Klingons are sometimes found here quite often.

I think NASA discovered that Uranus has a couple of moons and named them "Haemaroid" and "Piles" or something??!!

I know that they did discover rings around Uranus which would also need to be modelled.

Uranus also has a Methane atmosphere.

Look, all it needs is someone to find a decent pisture of Uranus and wrap it around the ringed Earth planet's mesh, then post it somewhere.

It would also be ggod for missions where someone has to stay behind to cover Uranus whilst other players go and attack something. I think it is in most millitary handbooks that one should always cover Uranus during an attack.

Anyone else think that Uranus is needed in the SFC game??

If Planet Hollywood is filled with movie props what's inside a Planet Uranus?

Besides the obvious jokes, it wouldn't be tough to do it..

There's a lot of good public domain images out there from NASA, and it'd only be a matter of remapping a mesh, or adapting the image to fit on the current planet mapping.

Either of which, the modellers here can do it.  :)

Good place to start would be here:

The real Puck looks nothing liket the Puck in SFC!!

And that odd shaped moon image looks like it was taken from SFC even down to the star background. It should fit in quite well.

Damned writing across Uranus...... why do people have to do that??

My teenaged son suggested another texture for Uranus but I ignored him as it wouldn't be postable except on H&S!! ::)

Here's a sight for planet models. Uranus will need a bit of editing for SFC. I can't help immediately, but would be glad to in a week or two if you can't do it yourself.

Nah, I can do it myself as it isn't that complicated to re-texture one of the stock SFC 1 planets.

I've done far harder than that with model texture attachments.

It's just a matter of matching the mesh to texture size just right.

Especially if it could have a break model!!

There are rules in SFB for super novas, which would kind of work in SFC if the star was given a ginormous explosion value and placed in a binary with another star to gradually destroy it with the radiation belt. I've done it with asteroids already.

How about a comet as well, then I could stage the Space Flight Chronology picture of a Mann Class light cruiser chasing a comet.

Or a ddep space rogue planet, as spawned inside nebulas.

Or a massive worm hole....

There is a fair amount of celestial stff missing from the game.

yea a worm hole that swallow you're ship and trow it elsewhere in the quadrant, not one that will destroyed you're ship.

example you are in the fed hexagon near earth and get stuck in a worm hole that trow you into Romulan territory's and must get back to fed territory's and fight you're way back against Romulan's

Depends when, in the timeline, you end up.

Now if in early TOS even a freighter can outrun a Romulan Warbird or Snipe.

Might be in trouble if in a later period and in a freighter.

It has to catch me first!! ;D

My son absolutely hates playing as early Romulans.

I find it challenging.

Klingons are still the best race to play, then Gorns, Feds in SFC 1.

In SFC 2 obviously the Mirak / Kzinti as nobody can argue with a Drone wall.

Sweet, there could be a terrain mod!

I think another kind of nebula would be interesting. Kind of like the one in "Wrath of Khan," where they didn't actually know where the others' ship was. The "Dark nebula" from SFC 1 was neat, with the asteriods and all.

Hands down, Klingon Academy had the best terrain. I remember getting lost inside of a gas giant while the shields burned up. And fighting inside of a planetary ring was crazy. The massive black holes, too, flinging asteriods around...

the problem with drones is when you run out you can't do anything unless you have phaser.

and drones are good to some point, add and point defense are good against them  ;D

plasma at speed of 32 will catch you, well if you're are close when the fire at you :)

klingon are not too bad, I'm starting to play klingon but it seem the have the same mission eaw that the fed have, i play op

i should try romulan and see how it is.

Been a while since I saw it unmodded, but I remember Feds, Klingons, Gorn, and Romulans.  The modding system isn't bad, but I could never figure out their "ginsu" system for damage..

From time to time, I fire it up and fly my Whitestar up against a Borg Tactical Cube or two.. and for fun, I throw in the NX-01 Enterprise, sneeze and blow it out of the sky.  (Usually two shots will take that out)..

Plasmas are speed 34 in SFC 1 and they do lose potency the longer they spend in flight time to teh target, but point defence can take them out.

Lemme see, Warbird versus me on a Fed F-L....

Settings for the F-FLPh....weapons off, facing shields reinforced, all others off, speed - best possible.

General tactc, duck past the Warbird, powering up facing shields only and use speed to run for the map edge to escape, maybe dump out the shuttles to pester and delay the Warbird.

I'd make it away on my toes with the F-L no sweat and it would be lucky to manage one Plasma shot as it drops behind. The F-FLPh is faster.

OK Don, that woyld be my gameplan, how would you counter with the Warbird between me and the escape route starting map centre , F-FLPh starting map edge centre on a 30 x 30 map??

This'll be interesting.... ::)

I guess that Don is a commited Rommie player. Well someone has to play them after all. :)

i mostly play the fed, i just really start playing klingon. well depending of the spec of the F-flph, if you are the fed, well you might not have good shielding and the weapons might not be enough to damage its shields.

That's why I'd shut them off.... just a pointless waste of power. No point firing back.... the Rommies would only laugh!!

The same goes for facing away shields.... not needed.

Total power is 16 x Warp and 2 x Impulse to play with but I can make better than speed 20 if I shut everything I can find off, including shields. More than enough to outpace a Warbird, unless it does the same.

The Warbird could launch shuttles though, which would force the freighter to raise all shields and power up weapons to deal with them, thus slowing it down to a catchable speed.

The Rommie Shuttles would present the freighter player with a tactical quandry.

It would make a good cat and mouse FMSE scenario.
