RSE Pkora class BOP....updates inside
« on: January 09, 2008, 08:39:30 pm »
Ok, I realize this doesnt look that much different than before, but a few notable changes have been made, will be posted in the next frame.

First, the overall pics. I wanted to ask about the color scheme. This is a skinny, a model that has vertice color applied, no textures. But this will be the overall hue of the textures....im trying to go for a greyish/green mix, to again give it some resemblance to the original BOP. Also note the silver cones on the end of the nacelles, another nod to the original.

I removed two of the panels in the rear, as they werent smoothing properly, and redid the nose, removing the direct navigational deflector...textures will have something shown there, but it will be far more benign so it doesnt detract from the obvious old fashioned plasma torpedo launchers.

I also flurted with the idea of making the wings move up, but abandoned that idea after wrestling with it for a while. The wings will be fixed in place.

Let me know what you think of the overall hue.

As you can see, the smoothing is pretty much complete. It took alot of work to tweak this one, let me tell you.

Thanks, and good to see you modelsplease.

Ok, here are closeups of the changes. You can see how I removed the deflector and formed the torpedo launcher more into the nose, as well as shaped the impression a little better to be more smooth.

The other shot shows that the hangar deck is now closed. The door will be detailed of course, but you get the idea.

Finally, you can see the wing edge and nacelle tweaks...I flattened out the top of the nacelle "bulbs" if you will to resemble more modern vents. They still have a slight resemblence to the orignal BOP nacelles, however, with the "talons" that surround the vent.

Wow, that just came out of nowhere. Well, I like how it honors the TOS one with it's design.

It's coming along really nicely. I like the TOS lineage, too. Not crazy about the way the nacelles are mounted. They look a bit "stuck on" while the rest of the design flows so nicely.

Thanks for the compliments.

Ok, I tried moving the warp engines down a bit, and added a pylon.

The reasons I like it...easier to detach engines for redesigns and such, gives it a stronger connection IMO, also a spot to place a cannon (on the forward pylon)

Reasons I dont like it....it breaks up the smooth profile the wing had before. Also, the overall sleek, tight look it had, like a bird in flight, is broken with nacelles that hang below the wing IMO.

Anyway, I decided to post some pics to see what you think...also thinking about some type of inbetween, and a drop down of the engine but hidden pylon underneath that fits a little better.

Here is the first way...direct pylon.

My first thought was the same as yours,

attach the cannon directly to the end of the wing and put the engine back the way it was. Problem solved. You could also use what you've done with the other bird styled designs such as the pkor and place the emitters in the front edge of the wing rather than outboard cannons. You sure have a habbit of fixing things till they're broke...lol

I agree starforce. I actually like it as it was...I had emitters under the wings, Ill post pics of the them later.

I just did this to see how it would look, since someone said they didnt like how the engines connected to the wings. Ill try one more thing, but like the moving wing thing, its just a "lets see how it looks" sort of thing.

Im stuck on the top one. Could use a bit of edit how it is attached though. Just underneath. But otherwise, I actually like how it becomes part of the wing.

Thought this doesnt look bad, I vote against...sofar I believe thats three votes against on this one.

Ok, this is what I decided. I liked the outline of the wing, especially from the top, too much to change it. Instead, I added a spar underneath the wing, sort of a ramp support that comes off the ventral wing into the side of the nacelle to beef up its connection to the wing on the forward end.

On a side note, you can see the indentations for the inboard disruptor emitters on the lateral ventral edge of the wing.
