A Question about having EAW and OP on the same HD ...
« on: December 22, 2007, 02:33:24 pm »
I have both installed now ... why, you might ask? Well, OP is where the online gaming is at and EAW has FMSE, which I like. Now, if OP had a version of FMSE, then I’d see no reason at all to have EAW installed ... but until then ... I like my custom missions.

So ...

I’ve got the room for both, but it seems redundant to have two Assets/models folders (or even 2 textures folders, for that matter ...)... is it possible to use the same folder, redirecting where the game looks for the models folder, and if so, how would that affect online/Dyna play?

well i have 3 installation of eaw and op, each have his shiplist and model folder.

but i don't think you can ask eaw to get the mod in op, the shiplist will have to look where the game is install, so if you want eaw to get the mod in the op folder it might not work,  so if you have the place on you're hd then simply make a full installation with the mods in simple.

Even if you could I don't think it would work. OP has the extra Pirate types which EAW wouldn't be able to handle and without them OP would likely have problems.

Yes it will work. It would take a large effort on your part to redirect all of the EAW shiplist entries to get the models from the OP model folder but it could be done. It would not work going the other way because OP needs models that the EAW folder does not have.  The easiest way to do it would be to use ship edit to change the path for the models.

Hey guys, thanks for the input ...

I may have to just give it a try and see.

Maybe if I edit the EAW shiplist (directing the game to look in the SFC:OP models folder ...) with Excel it might be quicker than with Shipedit ... lol

(hm ... I'm not overly Familiar with spreadsheet progs ... is there one with batch edit features? Might have to do a little searching before implementing this idea ...)

Thanks again,

JM.

:smackhead: I was thinking you were trying to use the same shiplist.  :smackhead:  Redirecting to read from the same model folders is different and though a lot of work I think it would work.

the ship list of eaw will not work with op, but i think the shiplist of op will work with eaw, but you will have to edit the weapons and the ui since there no "x" "A" or "B" weapons in eaw and no x ship ui

You can edit EAW shiplist to use OP Models, only 1 problem I can forsee.. but only with EAW, not OP.. You would fail CRC check on EAW Dyna servers and you would fail CRC check in Gamespy Arcade and fail CRC check in TCP/IP connections since the game engine compares files..

It should have no adverse effect for EAW single player though.
