Three "new" Rommies to bring in the NEW YEAR!!
« on: December 30, 2007, 01:25:31 pm »
Alright, I'm a newbie so take it easy on me ::) I have aquired direct OK's that are availabe and assumed OK's from the forum's list and in a couple of cases assumed OK's at the behest of a member who has worked directly with the individuals involved. I have also assumed that Atra will be OK with two of these becuase they use the same textures as the one he did OK with me in the same manner. If I have left anyone out in the readme's or if any of the original moddelers do not approve, please let me know and I'll do whatever I can to help rectify the situation.

These are basically "hack and slash" re-textures . . . I've just taken graphics from Atrahasis' and Ganymad's existing textures and added a few paint strokes or additional details where needed.

Actually, it's FOUR retextures: Anduril's  Kectcheken can use the new Kerchan texture set too.

Good Job

You can see Qob'nuH versions of the Cormorant, and Sparrowhawk at BC. Think your Sparrowhawk need a little more work on the back area where the engine/hanger is. You did a really good job on the Kerchan

Thanks so much for the positive response gentlemen. The Sparrowhawk was the first one I tackled, I wasn't 100% happy but I got too centred on the Kerchan and just decided to let it be as is. I'm working on a re-tex of Raven Night's BaQ, should be ready for test flight very soon! It's going to have a little more of my own work on it.

Cool! You'll need to do a Romulan version too...

P. S. the Cormorant retexture will need lighting as it does not appear to be illuminated for SFC: OP. Maybe Atheorhaven can assist with that?

Jeezz Louezz
KF that is simple to do, so simple even you can do it in 10 minutes

Take the orginal texture
open in PSP, PS whatever allows to do work in layers
add two raster layers
top most layer take a white paint brush and go over all the windows with it
Next layer down fill black
Merge/flatten them all
"OPTIONAL" convert to grey scale "OPTIONAL"
save as name+i.bmp

Open up the model file with max, milkshape, whatever
Add the name+i map in the alpha channel and export it

Done

Sorry GAFY?

I have none of those tools (PSP/Milkshape, etc.) you mentioned, so I can't do that myself or I would have to help out.

QobnuH's version of the killerhawk RBC would really shine with these additional textures

Happy New Year!

The gimp has layers, im sure someone was asking about it in another thread, and its free..  ;)

so when you have the gimp installed

open up the bmp
add a new layer
colour it in black
set its opacity to 50% or so
then draw on the black what you want to illuminate (like gafy said you can add a new layer to do this)
then re set the black layer to 100%
and save as an illum map.. black and white ugliness lol.

 :)

Another method I've seen is just to open the original image erase anything unlit, no need for perfection in this, and after filling the empty space with black save it as a full color _i. Works just the same from what I've seen and can be done even in Paint

Now that I'm back from holidays, I wouldn't mind helping out at all.. just drop me a PM with a link to download the ship with all the textures, and I can do up some illuminations for you.  :)

.. okay, done and done..

Added a couple of illumination maps in color, and generated a couple of new textures as well.

Here's the link to the file (too big to attach to this message or email)..

Northern star, my only nitpick is that you deleted the impulse drive from the sparrow (rrln). I looked at thulls original textures and another that's floating around with gafy textures (you did a better job with the feathers though) and I can't add it without screwing up details so I was wondering if you could? (and make it green plz).

BTW, you don't mind if I change the rest of your impulses green do yea?

What do you mean?  I had no trouble adding the impulse exhaust.  Thull's texture is in a lower quality format, but the textures have the same mapping.  He didn't even touch the illumination maps, which makes for a weird effect when catch the belly at the right angle.

Originaly I was going to do that but it seems NS has added some small details that I'd cut off with the impulse square as compared to the other sparrow I have here, by kf I think..

One thing I did notice about the comorant, and I dunno if this is fixable or not, but has you go from the rear half of the wing over the angled part to the front half, there seems to be a jog in the textures. It's barely noticeable on your pic but quite noticable if you are actualy rotating the model around. I don't know if there's anything that can be done?
