mustang-class runabout
« on: December 16, 2007, 01:01:52 pm »
I needed a break from texturing of my elysion class, so after I talked with fallen warrior i started this.
The original design is from SciFi-Art.com and was made from Tachy.

The current poly count is 3,5k and the textures will make fallen warior

Hope you like it :)

Edit: the last pic show the original model from Tachy

i haven't really started yet to be honest im wondering if i should keep the aztec or replace it with something a bit more subtle before i start really upping the detail

I'd vote for something a bit more subtle.

make the base color darker, and add a tinge of blue...

Not nessecarily subtle, just finer patter, it's too coarse for the size of the ship.

a ship this size won't have much of a pattern really, its just to small.  What it will have a lot of is panelling...

panelling would look good.  Only problem I see with the ship is, you have so much awesome detail in the model, but it gets washed away with the skinning put on.  Not being a moder myself not sure how to bring out that detail, whether it is having more detailed skins that wrap more of the small detail, or just more shading in the skin.

The ship looks awesome tho (even over  my NON-TOS prejudice)

well it needs more than just a base texture.  Essentially each edge is going to have to accentuated using panel work.  Once thats done (and all the other small details) they should go together rather nicely.

Excellent beyond words. Can't wait to download and fly around.

My preference is for the dark version, but they both look sharp. Nicely done.

Nicely done... this is looking really sharp.  :D

(btw: like seeing people in windows.. looking at a ship that closely means that a person should see some detail through the windows and through a front window, you should at least see the pilot if you have clearer glass (in my opinion)).  And it's nice to see them here..

to be honest... i wasn't too happy with the weathering.......so we will consider that a test run.....yeah thats it!

So im going back to the detailing.. so Thrusters..more chevrons and warning strips...Some greebles... some detail for that hatch thing at the top, the remaing window, the main hatches, some extra panels here and there.... anything else? before i start on the weathering?

The weathering is on a bit heavy.. but think of the initial "makeup" as being a cheap prom date, and refine from there.  ;)

I also prefer the model without the mouth and eyes. Perhaps you could release it with an alternate texture with those decals?
