The Hawk class heavy battlecruiser was a type of starship used by the Romulan Star Empire.
This class of vessels were developed after the initial Borg Collective threat that struck the Romulan Neutral Zone in 2364.
After seeing the power of this force, the Romulan military began researching more advanced systems as well as ship designs to combat this threat.
The project was accelerated after the Battle of Wolf 359 when intelligence reports revealed the capabilities of this new foe.
The Hawk class was the first of the new ships designs that were created by the research initiative.
It shares many of the 'V'vorath' design features and is both well armed as well as maneuverable making it a capable strike ship with its cloaking device allowing it to function in heavy combat duties.
During the Dominion War, this rarely seen battlecruiser was used by Shinzon's Regime as it's flagship.
The Hawk class packs 4 heavy disruptors, 2 new heavy disruption bolts, and 2 fast firing medium disruptors.
During the Dominion war the Hawk class became a staple of the Romulan arsenal.
While the Hawk class can score the sheer amount of damage of a Galaxy class, its armament cycles much faster, allowing it to score repeated volleys against the target.
The Hawk class is also far cheaper to construct, giving the Empire an advantage in numbers.
The IRW Cathex was a Romulan Hawk class heavy battlecruiser that was captained by the legendary Commander Astran which disappeared in 2372.

V'Dorak class Warbird

The V'Dorak class Warbird was designed as the testbed hull for a more modern Bird of Prey.
This forerunner of the Hawk and V'vorath class battlecruisers was one of the first design to implemant the new romulan plasma torpedo.
The Romulan Star Empire made heavy use of the V'Dorak class during their ultimately disastrous military campaigns against the Klingons in the first half of the 24th Century.
The V'Dorak Warbird was the pinnacle of Romulan technology of it's day, though the armament, however, was not commensurate with its size, it was still a ship to be reckoned with.

The fact that another power was using a version of a warship design they considered their own struck a blow against Romulan national pride.
The Klingon Bird of Prey helped to cement the dissolution of the tenuous Romulan/Klingon alliance, though the alliance had been little more than intellectual for some time.
The Romulans designed and quickly deployed the D'virex class.
The D'virex Bird of Prey was incredibly well armed for a ship of its size.
The Romulans chose to install two deadly heavy plasma mortars in the forward weapons pod the Klingons typically designed for their torpedo weapons, 2 medium plasma mortars in the head and yet another 2 plasma mortars in place of the wing disruptors.
In addition the D'virex Bird of Prey also added two rear-mounted light plasma mortars.
These weapons were installed to protect retreating D'virex from pursuing warships.

They look neat, but the Vdorak model doesn't match the picture.  It's similar, but clearly a different ship.  I think I like the model better, except for the front end.

Once again, I would request that you package the alternate textures in the main archive, since putting the folder in another archive does not make the file smaller and only adds an extra and unnecessary step in extraction.

Ah Borg, that's what my reaction was to that first texture set ( )

  Since these have Raven's thumbprint on them I take it they are unportable (so should I ask?)
Anyway how about porting --- for renders only? I wanna try something with ship#1 that falls more in line with a certain BOP I went gah gah over a while back (but I don't know if I can actually do it) but I certainly want to try...

Since you've been gone I've gone into a deep depression - Feeling better?
