SFB style FBCH Updated 12/15

Because you can never have enough Feds...

Textures still need to be made. And I need to figure out a photon launcher. Comments and suggestions are appreciated.

simple but effective none the less. You might want to take a close look at the deflector in the head on shot, it sorta looks like either the dish is off center or the hull portion has been deformed or something...then again it could be the angle, it's rather slight detail but I figured I'd point it out.

I did widen the secondary hull a bit. I left the deflector unmodified.

where would you be putting the laucnher? I doesn't seem like there's enough room to make a neck mount tmp style one praticle? Why not add extra standard tos styled tubes to the front of the normal area for them, which is under the bridge? A bank of 4 would probably be sufficient.

I didn't install the launcher yet. Bottom of the secondary hull is an option, but I'd like to stay as close to Desty_Nova's version as I can. What I did do was extend the dorsal hull and raise the primary hull so there would be enough clearance to install a launcher where the dorsal hull meets the secondary hull.

Another possibility is to expand the Secondary hull along the Z axis and mount the Photon Tubes Similar to how the Excelsior has them mounted.

I was thinking use the Federation Class Dreadnought secondary hull, just without the rear sensor, the shuttle bay can stay there.  In place of the forward shuttlebay, put the launch tubes.

Yes, it does...Hmm. I'll do some tinkering and see what I can come up with. I'll have to ask MP for permission to use it in the release version if I go that route.

I believe I am done with this ol' girl. Check out the screenies and let me know what you think. I understand the photon launcher assembly is WZs work, so I would need to obtain his permission prior to releasing her.

Modifications include widening and stretching the engineering hull, a small scale up of the primary hull, addition of the photon launcher and modification of existing textures. Without further ado, I present USS Atlantis NCC-1764 (according to SFB documentation). Enjoy :)

She looks great. A widened 2ndary hull seems to be a direction that a lot of designs turned to. Not only latter designs but even G. Koerners pre tos Ent.

Info I have shows the USS Atlantis as an BCS. Do you know her history? Was she converted from another BCH class or started as another class and completed as an BCS?

If Romulans aren't cowards, then why do they taste like chicken?

Thanks, Rod. High praise indeed from one of my favorite modellers. And thank you, as well, F_W. As always your comments are appreciated.

The Atlantis appears to be a new construction Battle Control Ship, according to info from starfleetgames.com. I've been out of the loop for quite a while, so I am not familiar with BCS specs. If I had my choice, I would make the Atlantis a BCG....my favorite FBCH variant. At any rate, I don't have a history on her just yet, but I will see what I can dig up.

Edit: As for the widened secondary hull...it seems to make sense to incorporate that feature in a design that is essentially an uprated cruiser. It would be interesting to see how such a secondary hull would look with a Connie saucer and nacelles.

Thanks a bunch for the positive comments folks. I have received permission from WZ to use his photon launcher in this design. I'll need to do a little cleanup and create the appropriate documentation and then she'll be ready for release.

An update on the 'official' history of the USS Atlantis: Construction began with the intent of making her a BCV, however she was completed as a BCS and launched in Y184 of the SFB timeline.

This information is taken from the SFB discussion board, from a post by Steve Cole himself. The entire post follows, for those who are interested...

Atlantis: Federation BCV-1764, launched Y184, converted to or completed as BCS.

Thanks for filling me in on her. I know the BCG is your favorite, but I was thinking that the model might make a good BCJ with the TMP photon tubes being the additional photons added to the design. That's what made me ask. I've seen all of the BCH designs represented with TMP torp launchers though. So, whatever way you go is cool. 8)

I can make her a BCJ, no problem. It does make sense, with the extra launchers. I wanted to use the Atlantis registry, quite frankly, because it required the least amount of work on my part. :P
