SFB official 1st gen Fed x-cruiser WIP
« on: June 25, 2008, 08:18:03 pm »
This is the new official SFB CX as done by Adam Turner.

I've mentioned that I have the author's permission to model it for SFC. Unfortunately the 1st draft is too hipoly and I'm not going to be able to get the nacelles solid with the way I've modeled them. I'm basically going to have to start over. I just wanted to show what I'd done so far so you all know that I'm seriously working on it.

So here's a pic of my 1st draft WIP. Hopefully I'll be able to get similar results at about 1/2 the polies. This one is over 13k. >:(

Nice looking ship, but I guess I've always been used to the idea that the TMP Enterprise was supposed to be the CX.

The CAI is apparently the TMP ship, IIRC.

Rod, would you mind posting a wireframe? I know a few tricks that can reduce the tri count without impacting the shape.

That's one of the nicest connie variants i've ever seen, i'm genuinely impressed by that.
God said to the Welsh: 'I am going to give you this glorious land of lakes and mountains.' So where's the catch, asked the Welsh? 'Wait until you see the neighbours,' replied God.

I love it.  Only gripe, the nacelles are a bit blocked by the saucer, but that's a nitpick of the design itself, which I am assuming that the design calls for the nacelles to be where they are.

Other than that, this is an incredible ship, and I will definately download it.
The pen is truly mightier than the sword.  And considerably easier to write with.

The nacelles were lowered to open up the side phaser arcs. SFB states that TacIntel for the CX is the same as the CA. I think that Adam lowered the nacelles only as much as was needed for the phaser arcs, not wanting it to move to far to the BCH design.

No point in the wireframe. I'm redoing her completely. The nacelles are the culprits. They are over 8k, and like I said, won't boolean smoothly for me. I'm going to try to use SubD modeling techniques (hypernurbs to be more accurate in C4D) to make the nacelles. Ought to be good experience. I used it a bit with the DNL saucer. This will take it further into a multi-geometry design. We'll see, anyway.

This ship was made because SFB can't use TMP designs. So this is more or less a parallel design to the TMP Connie in the SFB universe.

I'm glad there's a positive response to the design. I'll try and do her justice in the low poly version.

IN X1, the USS Enterprise NCC170-A is listed as a CX in the OOB.

I use Pnemonic81's F-CA, but this looks pretty sweet as well.

I like everthing about it except the impulse glow, always preferred the orange/red, and the red pinstriping on the upper saucer which always looks a bit too cartoonish to me.

Here's where I'm at with the new mesh. Right now it's at 6900 and I was able to get the nacelles (and everything else) one piece this time. I just couldn't get a clean boolean on the original nacelles. I'm estimating she'll weigh in at around 8k when finished. The neck and pylons won't need to many polies. The impulse engines are the next thing to contend with efficiently.

Thanks for the comments.
