HELP! ModelsPlease your Fed Travel Pod does not work.
« on: November 21, 2007, 12:40:02 pm »
Hi ModelsPlease,

I downloaded your Fed TMP Travel Pod from Battle Clinic.  It appears as a solid black object with just the bottom of it with any detail (podbot.bmp texture map) in both SFC1 and the Taldren Mod Viewer.  When I removed the SFC2 texture maps (podboti.bmp and podi.bmp) it appears as a solid white object with just bottom details in the Taldren Mod Viewer and still appears as a black object with bottom details in SFC1.  It seems that the SFC1 texture map pod.bmp is missing.  Will you please fix this?

Here is a link to the Battle Clinic entry on Fed page 56 (it is the 5th entry on the page):

Just checked.. and did a quick look..

There's a file in there called Clipboard01.bmp that's out-sized.. once scaled back to 256x256, it shows up fine with textures in ModViewer.  Haven't checked the illum texture reference as I'm at work.. :)

I've attached the resized file as a JPG.. open it in Paint and save it as a BMP, overwriting the original Clipboard01.bmp file, and that should fix it as a temporary fix for you until MP issues the correction..
..ooOOoo..totally useless information..ooOOoo..

atheorhaven,

It did not work.  Microsoft Paint would not load the JPG file, it said it was not a BMP file.  I'm still using Windows 98 Second Edition.  However, I loaded the JPG file using PhotoFinish (by Zsoft copyright 1992) and saved it as a BMP file.  This still did not work, so I copied Clipboard01.bmp and named the copy pod.bmp, but this still did not fix the problem.

Thanks anyway,

Okay, there are two things that need to be done, either convert the one that I attached to a BMP using Infraview or something else (I've had really good results with XNView running under Windows 95, so it should go under 98).. or else open Clipboard01.bmp in Paint and resize it to 256 pixels by 256 pixels, then save it.

And it does work, I promise.. I have it running here using exactly this.. nothing extra.

Starforce2 and atheorhaven,

You are right.  I used IrfanView to convert the JPG to BMP and now the Federation Travel Pod works in the Taldren Mod Viewer.  Hopefully it will work in SFC1 as well.

Thanks,

It should as long as you use a version that doesn't use illumination maps in the mesh.. but I'm glad that the corrected map is going for you now.  :)

And like I said, that's a quick fix until the final fix comes out.. ;)

Hi all,

The good news is ModelsPlease's Fed Travel Pod also works in SFC1 (not just the Taldren Mod Viewer, you were right atheorhaven).  ModelsPlease thanks for correcting the problem and thanks for making this model in the first place.

Here are some pictures of ModelsPlease Fed Travel Pod taken from within SFC1 (using the F12 Function Key):

Everyone,

This is, exactly, is why I mod.  :D

It's one thing to make a ship and release it, it's entirely another thing to see something you've done being used in someone's game.  Makes it all worth it to me.

Thanks for posting the screenies!

Btw, waiting for permissions to come across from Bernard, but if MP is good with it, and Bernard is, I've done up some colored illumination maps for the TravelPod that use one of the benefits of SFC 2.. self illumination.

Lets you do some nifty things like put people inside ships and make it look "not weird".  ;)

What I've done is take Bernard's portrait shot from the forum here, and put him into the TravelPod behind the helm, did up the colored illumination maps for the two main textures, and then did a render with one of my old backgrounds.  Turned out pretty decent, I think.

But here's a teaser shot for the illuminations, and barring any "No"'s from MP or Bernard, I'll send them over to MP.  :D

ATheorhaven sent me his glows for my little travel pod, and it got me thinking.... this first one is very primitive and not very good (mesh wise) and since you guys really like this very over looked little design I thought I owed it to the community to address this one with the same attention I give the big ships so here's the new model. Oh and YES Bernard will be included in the new textures LOL

Okay, teaser shot is done.. and Bernard now has a body.  ;)

Probably a couple more tweaks yet.. I found not too bad an interior shot that I am working off for the interior.  But this shows you about where the illumination maps are right now.  The cool thing is that you'll not see these normally, Bernard only comes out when its dark out.  :D

Which version of the game are you making this for?

If it is for SFC3, I can do my transparency trick and set the starfleet personnel back a bit so that it does not look like they are crammed against the window.

Should be released (I think) for all versions, MP has a lit and non-lit version, and I can do up glows and _??.BMP shots for it for SFC 3.

We should get together on IM one of these weekends, I'd like to learn that trick, it's one I don't know yet.  ;)

That'd definitely be better, to get the full body shot of you, I added your avatar photo to a shot of Bill Shatner's TWOK uniform up on auction.  ;)

Agreed, let's get together the three of us. Absolutely do a version for SFC 3 IM as I've done a SFC1 and SFC2 version so far.

ok i kinda just realized the reference pic i was working from is a different variant of pod, i noticed just as i started the lightmap for the altered texture.
MP or Alec, think it might be possible to remap the pod to accept the updated texture?

ive included the texture and lightmap in jpeg so people can see what ive done. and ive also thrown in the rar with the bmps

I'll see what I can do with it later on tonight, the weekend was a write-off for me trying to get anything done other than family stuff.  :p  (Two Christmas parties and buying our son a computer for school ate a good amount of time).  :/

Sorry for the delay on my part.. the only reason why I have anything new to post is because I'm having a less busy day at work and had a chance to work on a few things.  :)

Here's a shot of the SFC 3 glow (just went with a mild basic one.. the light on the bottom)  and this shows off a bit of the illumination textures.  Light source is on the window, so you're not seeing the interior.

SFC III ? Does that mean the SFC 1 and 2 versions are done already ?

Well, it does mean that any tweaks that I do on the illumination maps will be for both, yup.  :D

I am going to clean up the main texture a bit if you don't mind.. I would like this to be as clean as possible before I send it over.  I can vectorize a majority of the texture, and that'll clean it up a lot.  And then once that's complete, and I've done a few more things, I'll send both maps your way.

Btw, I've tried remapping the mesh for FW, and I keep munging it up for some reason.. :p

I did Bernard.. but I decided eventually that if I used some of those, it wouldn't work quite as well as what I had.  :)

And I'd stretch the other occupant of the Pod too much if I did.. so I left it as is.  :)

On the plus side though, I've just sent MP email with the finished Pods for SFC 1, SFC 2, and SFC 3 attached.  :D

Next stage is up to MP.. I'd imagine credits and release, but F_W had also offered to help on this as well.. (?)

ModelsPlease,

Your original Travel Pod had 2 versions, a large version and a scaled down version.  Your latest update of the Travel Pod only has the large version.  Is there any chance you could also provide a scaled down version.  The large version is about the height of the pylon that connects the Enterprise Primary Hull (the Saucer) to the Secondary Hull (the Cylinder).

ModelsPlease,

Thank you for the scaled down version.  However, now the large version of the Travel Pod is no longer in the file.  You may want to include both the large version and the small version of the Travel Pod for others to use in SFC.  Fortunately for me I have both versions for SFC1.

Thanks again,

Hi Alec,

Thank you sir, but that will not be necessary.  The small version of the Travel Pod works fine in SFC1, no conversions required.

ModelsPlease,

I apologize for the confusion.  You are right I would not want the Travel Pod the size of the Enterprise nacelle.  Allow me to clarify by saying you may want  to provide 2 sizes of the Travel Pod, a scaled down size and a size a litte bit larger to allow gamers to see the Travel Pod during game play (and appreciate the details), like you did with the 2 sizes of your original Travel Pod.

Hope this helps clear up any confusion,

Hey Alec,

As promised here are some screen shots of the Travel Pod and the Drydock from TMP via SFC1.  I also, included shots of V'ger encountering the Klingons that I created in March 2004.  In February 2004 I created V'ger using the Planet Jupiter Mod that came with SFC1 and used a DVD image from TMP of V'ger that was uploaded to the web as the Planet Jupiter's bitmaps.  Then I assigned the V'ger Mod to the Nuetral Star so I could fly through it and assigned it to the Doomsday Machine so I could fight it.  Atrahasis touch up my V'ger Mod and I think he made a SFC2 version of it.

Thanks guys for the compliments.  For me it is December 07, 1979 again.  I now get to live in the world of "Star Trek:  The Motion Picture".  I am one of the few fans that liked this film and wished Paramount had made sequels to it instead of altering things in the sequels we got.  Now, thanks to the many artist involved I get to escape to this world, I have been waiting  for this for a long time.  To paraphrase Will Decker, "I want this!  More than Capt. Kirk wanted the Enterprise, I want this.".  The only thing missing is the V'ger Cylindrical Ship and the Epsilon 9 Spacestation, but I can live without them.  I enjoyed every minute I spent setting up those screen shots in SFC1, it was pure escapism.  The nuerons in my brain were excited, firing off electrons to the pleasure center of my brain from taking these pictures.

A special thanks to all of the artist that made this possible:

01.  ModelsPlease, Atheorhaven, Alain Rivard and Fallen_Warrior for the Travel Pod.

02.  Atrahasis for the Deacon Spacestation, Drydock, Vulcan Shuttle Surak (with sled and without),
Starfleet Shuttle Galileo 7 (with sled and without), and improved V'ger Cloud.

03. Chris Burks and John Stone for the Work Bee.

04.  WickedZombie45 for the upgraded Enterprise.

The human adventure is just beginning...

Fallen_Warrior,

My apologies.  I did not see your name in the Travel Pod ReadMe.txt text file.  So I thought you were Alain Rivard and given credit by that name instead of by your screen name of Fallen_Warrior.  I added your name to list in my previous post.
