Another thought for new players, young and old alike.

I played SFC for a long time. And was very familliar with all aspects of it. And I still found all the patching, installing shiplists, setting router ports, etc., etc., to be irritating in the extreme.

Any new player to this game, on seeing the number of steps required to actually be able to play, might very well never cross the threshold. Maybe a stickied forum post saying, "New Player? Check in here to get a helpful mentor!" Just some names and email addresses for people to contact to get one on one help with getting everything set up. Having someone on Teamspeak or, for that matter, on the telephone, to walk a new player through all the many hoops and hurdles might keep any that show up here around for a while.

Respects...

we should also find some way of punishing Gates and Ballmer.  How dare they create a version of windows that's so unfriendly to OP.  At the moment I'm working on getting an old computer running again so I can run OP as well as a number of other programs which are not vista compatable.  Then you guys can get back to blowing me up.  When I get back online, I'm thinking of starting a kill thread.  After two months, the person who blows me up the most earns the title of "Big Earl."

Please - from your sig it looks like even EVE is rejecting you.

And if you don't meet EVE's "standards"....

another good idea to recruit new players might be to start recording gameplay and posting it on youtube.  It would increase the visibility of the community, and hopefully lure some people into buying the game.

I have been playing Freelancer lately on the Monkey Universe Server. The Admins there have come up with a brilliant way to bring in new young players. This is for kids 12 and younger. Over there a tag of "Cheeky Monkey" is placed before there name. This tells the hard corp players to take it easy on these kids. Sometimes they don't follow the server rules but then again they might not understand the rules. So far its a big hit over there. I was wondering if it just might be possable to try something like this here. Maybe on a long running server like the Forge.

MU Callsign: Rum Runner Soreyes
Ship: CSV Transport "Close To The Edge"

Well as it is you already must accept the Gamespy little "13 years or older" box when logging into D2&D3, and since it isnt a requirement that you be registered on these forums either to just play the game, then I really cant see how this would be able to be implimented where it validates age(without changing the directory or server kit initial procedure codes). Even so, they can always lie about there age, and there really isnt a good way to prevent that.
They do this a lot in GuildWars seeing how it is free there are some younger than 13 who come from Runesacpe or Runeesape. This however if Dizzy and Krueg sorry if spelled wrong will be nice to them unlike they were to me.

How about telling a bunch of people online that NOTHING checks CD keys for OP and the disc itself has NO copy protection at all?
