OP Crash on Start
« on: November 03, 2007, 09:52:29 am »
Hi,

Recently installed OP onto my XP machine.  It was running fine until I decided to patch it this morning to 2552.  Now, it crashes to desktop as soon as I click "Campaign" on the starting screen.

Any suggestions?  Thanks.

I had the same problem when I patched too. The savegame files from older versions don't work w/ a different patched version. To get the campaign working, try manually deleting the save files in the OP directory on your computer. You'll have to start over, but I hope you weren't too far along.

I saw someone asking for a fix for the single player campaign crashing and I figured out the problem.

Apparently the campaign scripts are installing improperly and need to be moved around.

On my computer under

C:\Games\Starfleet Command Orion Pirates\Assets\Scripts\Campaigns

it the "conquest" script package and the normal scripts in the same directory.

You need to move all the current scripts to another folder and make sure the following scripts are installed in the above directory.

BeastRaiders.mct
Camboro.mct
generalfederation.mct
generalgorn
generalhydran.mct
generalisc.mct
generalklingon.mct
generallyran.mct
generalmirak.mct
generalromulan.mct
korgath.mct
orion.mct
prime.mct
syndicate.mct
tigerheart.mct
wyldefire.mct

Those are all the default scripts that came with the game.

Also, make sure you are not playing using the OP Hardcore mod.  I found that it made my campagins crash while the normal OP+ and Default Taldren mods worked fine.

Hope that helps.

I was having this problem when I tried to start a single player campaign.  (Just the Conquest missions--I can't seem to access the storyline missions.)  Quite by chance I discovered that clicking on the shipyard button first and then going to the campaign section eliminated the problem altogether.  Now if I could just find out why I can't access the Storyline missions I'd be set.  I'd love to fly the EAW missions using the SFB mod shiplist.

I hope that helps with your crash problem.

I am new but old at this game. I have an XP machine and can't enter the CD Key code to even get started in the game. Does anyone know how to solve this? Last time I was on, a year or so ago, : I also started crashing after loading the 2552 update. Any solutions BEFORE I get there? :-\

Any time you use a patch or change the shiplist or change campaign modes, you must delete old campaigns first.. the game will crash if you do not delete the old saved games.

As for not entering the CD key, you are using the wrong executable game file.. You need to launch the game from the StarfleetOP.exe game file.

If you are using the shortcut in the start menu, that points to the SFCOP.exe file and that file is broken..

You must launch the game from the StarfleetOP.exe game file.
