Ohio State, in both the polls and the BCS just out this week.

Now if they can just avoid the upset bug that's been sweeping the nation they will be fine.

Ain't that the truth. They had a story on the local Columbus TV about how people don't even want to talk about the ranking, afraid they will jinx the team even more!

I don't understand is why Ohio State is # 1, they have played a such a weak schedule. I think OSU fans have every reason to be worried. I think Boston College has as much of a claim to # 1 as OSU does if not more. If OSU played tougher non-conference games then I'd be ok with OSU being # 1 but when OSU plays non-conference games like bottom of the MAC barrel Kent State it kind of makes me wonder. I mean come on, poor Kent State can't even hold a peace rally without being slaughtered let alone have their football team challenge any of the Big 10 teams.

I just think that strength of schedule should count a little more then it does. Of course if we had a playoff system in college football this would all be a moot point. Then again if you play a weak schedule like what OSU is doing and go undefeated it makes playoff (or one bowl) game(s) a lot easier with a injury free team. I really think that once again the BCS is going to raise even more questions then it did last year. I'll probably get dinged for saying all of this but it's how I feel.

Schedules are done years in advance. While OSU's schedule so far this year is not that great by any means Washington was supposed to be (I think) the decent out of conference game. Normally they don't schedule this many in state schools either, not sure what happened there. But Akron, Youngstown and Kent all in the same year is not normal. That said, BC has a signature win over who? Wake Forest? Army? I know they scheduled ND but come on like I said above you can't tell when you schedule the game what the opposing team is going to be like. Beating ND is like beating my high school team. This year.

EDIT - just to throw some stats out there. OSU has the #1 total defense and scoring defense in the nation. #2 in rushing defense and #3 in passing D. Offense was not expected to be as good this year after everyone that left but still #24 scoring and 41 total offense. BC has the #1 rush defense, 27 total defense, 10 passing offense, 20 total offense. Also, OSU has the 23rd hardest schedule and BC has the 51st. All of these stats came from the NCAA website.

Boston College has just a weak a schedule as OSU regardless of what the NCAA says as 23rd and 51st isn't that far apart IMHO. But BC has a win over #15 ranked Georgia Tech while OSU only win vs ranked teams comes against #23 ranked Purdue (ranked at the time the games were played). As far as Washington goes I put them in the same league as Wake Forest, both are pretty decent teams this year, actually I think that match up would make a good bowl game. As for the stats, anyone can run up stats against weak teams just as easily as they can run up the wins. Anyway Boston College has to play at #11 ranked Virginia Tech next. That is not going to be an easy game for BC so all of this might be a moot point in a couple of weeks. But as of right now, I don't see how OSU can be seen as being any better then BC.

BTW who in the heck was the idiots that let Michigan back in the top 25??!? If anything says these rankings are messed up that has to be it.

Hey, I'm an OSU fan. As far as I'm concerned they are in the BOTTOM 25 every year!

OSU has a string of five 5-2 teams coming up with Penn State at night in Happy Valley (always tough for OSU for some reason) as well as the Michigan game. Assuming that the Buckeyes win out (an assumption for everyone this year) after the next couple of weeks their SOS will go up.

Don't over look Michigan State this Saturday, they have a decent offense and have no problems putting points on the board. That said there is no way MSU is going to beat OSU but that game could give some insight on just how good OSU defense really is. But your right OSU should win out this year, the real miscarriage of justice will come when they have to play South Florida for the national championship.
