New twist on an old email scam
« on: November 02, 2007, 03:40:08 pm »
Thought I would share so you all are prepared for this one. Got it today with Gmail.

elizabeth cole ado <mother_elizabeth61@hotmail.com>
to eli_cole61

Calvary greetings to you in the name of God.

I am Mother Elizabeth.A. Cole from sierra Leone a widow to late Patrick Cole I am 61 years old, I am a new Christian convert, suffering from long time cancer of the breast.

From all indication my condition is really deteriorating and it is quite obvious that i may not live more than three months, according to my doctors reports, and in all various test and operations regards to the medical analysis of my sickness, this is because the cancer stage has gotten to a very bad stage that no hope for me to be a living person again,my late husband was killed during the U.S. raid against terrorism in Afghanistan, and during the period of our marriage we had a son who was also killed in a cold blood during the war.

My late husband was very wealthy and after his death,I inherited all his wealth. The doctors has advised me that I may not live for more than six months, so I now decided to divide the part of this wealth, to contribute to the development of the church in Africa,America Asia and Europe especially creating solution to problems of less privileged ones, orphanage homes and cancer patients.

I selected you after visiting the website and i prayed and fasted for some days over it with advise of my pastor before selecting you, i am willing to donate the sum of $15.5m US dollars, to the less privileged.

Please I want you to note that this fund is lying in security company and upon my instruction, my attorney, who presently is in Africa distributing relief materials of bomb blast in sierra-Leone, will file in an application on your behalf for the transfer of the fund/money in your name.

Lastly, I honestly pray that this money when transferred to you, 70% of it will be used for the said purpose even though am late then, and because I have come to find out that wealth acquisition without Christ is vanity and also of what benefits a man after gaining the whole world and loose his/her life without having
Christ.

I made the promise to God that 70% of the fund will be use to build his
temple and for orphanage.May the grace of our lord Jesus Christ, the love
of God and the fellowship of holy spirit, be with you and your family.
God bless you.

Mrs. Elizabeth.A. Cole.
Remain blessed in Jesus name (Amenn]

Just a heads up.

How stupid do people need to be to fall for this stuff? You just know somewhere somebody doesn't even blink at the idea of a millionare widow contacting a relative nobody out of the blue asking for their help and just runs right into the trap.

And of course, using it in that context, you sure hope they (edit:meaning the writers of the email) aren't really christian...because I wouldn't want to be them on the other side.  Not that I can tell where they'll go...because I don't, but I think I wouldn't want to be in their shoes as I would expect I'd have better chances otherwise.

Now where in the Bible does it say if someone does something stupid you should shoot them in the face?"

I stopped reading my personal email a long time ago because 99.99 percent of it was either spam or viruses. I just don't bother with it. Work email is protected from outside messages. That's all I ready anymore.

I set up a pretty comprehensive bunch of filters.  The first group takes messages from known E-Mail addresses and put them in folders named for the sender.  Then there is a filter that checks for an uncommon "keyword" in the subject  and puts it in a "new contact" folder.  When I give my E-Mail to a new contact I tell them to send the first E-Mail with the keyword in the subject line.  The balance filter out virtually everything else into the trash.  Almost nothing gets past those defenses that is unwanted.

All of these scams play your greed against you.  By falling for the enticement to do something you know you shouldn't, you're also more likely to keep quiet once you figure out you've been scammed, because nobody wants to admit to getting burned by another crook while doing something crooked.

like many scam, i will send you a check of 5, 000$, send me 2, 500$ back to me, yea sure i  will, the check is lost in the mail, you need to wait a year before i send another one :)

send me money for x reason in the name of god, yea right, well its your lost not mine.
