Can you trade when you have only one ship in SFC2&OP?
« on: October 02, 2007, 09:48:41 am »
Hello,
I would like to know if it's possible to trade in your only one ship in SFC2&OP, like in SFC1&3? As far as I know, you need to buy a new ship first, then you can sell the other old ship. But I need to make sure if there's any solution to this.

Thanks,:)

You must have another ship before you can trade in.  But IIRC it was that way in SFC1 as well.

A good trick is to buy a really cheap ship, like a small freighter, that is cheaper than the prestige you get from selling your original ship. Then, sell the original ship, and buy the new ship that you want. Then sell the cheap freighter. Be sure to do the math ahead of time. Sometimes I forget to and I can't get the new ship I want, and I'm stuck with the freighter.

No. In SFC1, you can sell the only one ship first, gain money, then buy a new ship in shipyard.

In SFC2/OP, you must buy a new ship first, then you can sell your old ship. It means the money you can use is limited.  :(

Ahh, and there's the difference between 1 and 2.  In SFC1 it won't let you leave that screen until you have one ship.  In SFC2 you don't trade in your ship at the Shipyard screen so it can't force you to stay there.

I think in SFC1 the game doesn't let you trade in your single ship if you don't have enough prestige to buy another ship "on the market," but I haven't played in a while.

Even you don't have any money in bank, if you can buy at least one ship in the shipyard after you sell the ship, you can still trade in it. In my experience, there always is a ship you can buy after selling the only ship. But it doesn't worth doing, since the current ship is always more powerful than what you can buy if you trade it when no money in the bank.

Using the following pic for example, you can still trade in your F5. But you can only buy a E4 after that, so it's not worthy.

If you had an E4 and tried to trade it in, there wouldn't be anything on the market that you could afford afterwards.
