LUNAR ECLIPSE: On Tuesday, Aug. 28th, the full Moon will slip into Earth's shadow for a two-hour total eclipse. People on the Pacific side of Earth including much of North America (map) will have the best view as the Moon turns a dreamy shade of sunset red. Graphic artist Larry Koehn created this animation of the event:

If you're in viewing range of the eclipse and you wish to photograph it, browse this gallery and check for successful photo settings used by other photographers during the March 3, 2007, total eclipse. The action begins Tuesday morning around 0900 UT or 2 am Pacific Daylight Time; be ready!

Better than I could, totality came 10 minutes before sunrise which put the moon right on the western horizon this AM. All of the 2nd half of the eclipse was over the horizon for us on the Esat Coast.

My mom and I saw about 40 minutes of it last night, as the eclipse was starting. It was great. She said she hadn't seen one for a very long time. With just your eye you could see the moon's surface black out, with just the rim being visible, and then slowly turning orange red. The most bottom tip of the moon did not change color for the time we were seeing it. We would have stayed outside and watched the rest, but it was getting close to 3 in the morning, and we were getting bitten by little bugs outside. Gotta spray the yard.

It was pretty cool, especially since if you looked you could easily make out the Umbra and the Penumbra on the moons surface

Yep, I watched it the other morning. It was a big deal here in Oklahoma. I did the old indian trick, and drank about 12 quarts of water, and when I got up about 4:30 that morning, I thankfully remembered, oh yeah the eclipse.

Hey guys! We got a GREAT show. It was dark red all over for the longest time here. I got some pretty good pictures of it (or at least it looks like really good pictures on my camera . . ) I'll have to post some later. What was a big bonus was that Steve was home with us to enjoy it too. We even set up my telescope!

Sorry to pop in and out like this but I am still trying to get the house back together. Steve is heading back to Diego Garcia as I am typing this. Please cross your fingers and hope that the freaking plane takes off this time or he'll be stuck in Japan for a few more days! Sure Space A is dirt cheep if not free but damn if those planes aren't very reliable!

If they ever managed to figure a way of launching Ophra Winfrey into orbit, sticking her in a space suit and sending her out on a space walk, somewhere in the world would be having a mini eclipse as she passed over!!
