Guys

Did anyone ever create nice Tholian Ship Models for SFC:OP?

It was the one piece I always wanted to see!

You mean the SFB "Operation Unity" campaign laid out in SFB Volume.III.  :)

Andromedan ships are way faster at Warp than all the other races (WF 15), which would allow them to cover huge map distances in campaigns faster.

Of course, that's only between satellite bases, which as navigation beacons. The Klingons later discover that hunting down these bases limits the Andromedan starships to normal Warp velocities.

The Klingons have many ways to fry a cat. I prefer to use an L7 Fast Battlecruiser!!

Correct Panzergranate, I haven't played SFB since 1985 -86. I alway wanted to play a campaign with my group in that era.

I have the 1988 SFB Volume.III. with the campaign laid out in detail, SSDs of ships, campaign map, etc.

SFC 1 seems to be SFB Volume.III. incarnate, with a few race absences.

The F-CLH was introduced in this Volume, Kzinti DD, Klingon E5, Andromedan's invasion fleet, X-Ships, Neo Tholian fleet, AuxCV and AuxCVA, Monitors, etc.

As Andromedan warships carry lesser warships, such as destroyers and frigates within them, and use power absorpsion panels instead of shields or armour (not ENT RF polarised plating!!), it would take some ingenuity to truely represnt the Andromedan war machine correctly.

The Klingons have many ways to fry a cat. I prefer to use an L7 Fast Battlecruiser!!

I do remember reading about the Andromedan warships carrying the smaller warships SFB Volume.III. In my local Game keeper back them. Man you bring back old memories.  I'm a big fan of carriers so I love it when they implemented Fighter and Carriers.

The Dreadnaught can carry a CL and 2 x DDs, or something like that. I'd have to look it up in the rulebook. There is a list of what can be carried and in what combinations.

The DN can carry 3 x Bullsnake cargo ships as well or 2 x Bullsnakes and a Satellite Base, etc.

The CA can carry 2 x DD or 3 x FF, etc.

I'll post up the table list if you want to be sure. It was just one of the features that made the Andromedans so different to play against in SFB.

I tend to use Auxilary CV and AuxCVA in games, as these are cheap on BPV but are well armed. Dumping out 4 x DroG at a surprised attacker from an apparent sittiing duck, is so satisfying. ;D (And that's just the F-AuxCVA!! :)

Also in skirmishes with friends, they just ignore the "freighter" until the fighters appear out of iit.

Monitors, for all races,  can carry a fighter pallet with 24 x fighters in addition to the Monitor's standard  6x shuttles.

It isn't just CVs and CVAs that carry fighters in SFB!!

I complete forgot about the AuxCVA and Monitors.

Panzergranate, do you have a group that still plays. I know there is a online SFB site but they charge a monthly fee to play.

We've kind of moved over to SFC 1 as a platform for our campaigns now. Kitbashing virtual ships as opposed to cutting up Micro Machines ships, (pauses whlist Nerd ST collectors reading this scream, "YOU DID WHAT??!!" ::)), to make ships, making patterns and castings for other modles, etc., is just so much easier and less hastle.

Also we can fit in a huge number of skirmishes and battles on SFC instead of spending all afternoon on just one SFB battle.

I act as player/umpire is other types of wargames, occasionally, and can't memorise all the rules verbatim. Most of the time consumed in SFB, is spent checking the rules when complex tactics are used. SFC eliminates all the ,"Hang on a moment whilst I check....", plus the "Rules Lawyers" found in any game or sport you can name.

It isn't that hard to hook a bunch of cheap old P3s or P4s and monitors into a 6 computer LAN network at home.

The thing is to have a common shiplist for all computers involved. The images used on each individaul computer don't really matter, just that the shiplists are indentical.

LANs can run 18 ships maximum, unlike online games.

There is still the 32 shuttle and 32 fighters limit in the whole game though.

All you need is a group of you to assemble to do this.

I play online with a guy who has this type of setup in his basement for OP, with at least 6 comps.  He has friends over often enough for games.

The thing is, we found, is to use a cable based hook up between computers as wireless is just too slow and generates lag even on LAN games. Wireless does run 3 times slower than Ethernet, etc.

I does pay to have 3 computers in one room and 3 in another, for obvious team tactical reasons.

However, hearing a loud, "Aw sheeetttttteeeee!!" from the other team through a wall does help with own team tactical intelligence occasionally!! ;D
