Atheorhaven: Don't shoot me, but that worldship reminded me of Starship Troopers.

Dump the upper ring and keep the horizontal, add more greebles for turrets and ship berths and put it around the moon. The Dark side faces us all the time so if you keep the level ring it should wobble a bit and still cover almost all the areas needed for Earth.

Add more high-res textures and BAM SST Moon defense ring. FTW!!!

No worries, and a moon is something I hadn't scaled for.. I had two sizes, but I never thought of doing a moon at the time.  Willl have to try that out..

my original thought was for a small sun to power the the solor collectors lining the inside of the rings but i am happy to see other peoples take on such a simple thing as a sphere.

That'd be four sizes.. Jupiter scaled (brown dwarf=small sun), Earth scaled, Mars scaled (as they currently are), and moon scaled.  All of which is easy enough to do..
