At home, Sick.
« on: September 06, 2007, 07:01:28 pm »
At home, Sick... so what do I do, get into a thing:

These are retextures using the Paths left in Coxxons JPEGs.
I felt like seriously screwing up a Viper.... poor thing.

and my Battlestar: Dauntless

Are you going to be releasing them?
People always said they wanted the government to listen to them and now the government is listening, taking notes and names...and coming to see you soon!

America-Not the land of the free anymore...
Its the land of the freeloaders

Remember the axiom of big government bureaucrats: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. When, finally, under the crushing weight of taxes and regulation, it stops moving, subsidize it.

Your work looks exceptional! I would love to do a collaboration. MadJohn and I were working on developing a Pre-Armistice BSG Fleet for Bridge Commander. I had the BSG_R Battlestars (12) in all color coded with the MK 2 Vipers to their mother ship. Here is a pic of the Battlestar Atlantia MK 2 Viper. I have the MK2 Vipers in the following colors. (Burnt Red, Gold, Silver, Bronze, Black, Blue, Burnt Orange, Yellow, Copper, Purple, Maze and Green). The corresponding color stripes to the ones on the Battlestars. I just recently started playing around with the Battlestars. But been on the lazy side as of late.

Give me a list, lol. Here's what I need to know: Each battlestars name, color (rgb value if you want), and class (wether its a Mercury-class like Pegasus or a Galactica-type) and any additional data, ie: if you want a battlegroup to have a different emblem on their back, etc.

Ok, This Project was done during BSG's first season in 2005. So we were working from that basic premise. Meaning we knew nothing of the Pegasus. So all of our work was based on the single Battlestar Galactica. I'm not familiar with the names of the Battlestar Classes you have in your pics. The ones I didn't mark with a Battlestar Class? I'll leave to your discretion. If you would like a copy of my textures. You can contact me threw Starforce2 or Bridge Commander Files.com. -BR32

The Pegasus is of the Mercury class. We dont know the name of the Galactica's class, so I just use "Galactica-Type"

The Dauntless is of the same class as the Galactica, I just textured it all to be a bit more Seraphian-styled.

EDIT: you have Virgon twice, i assume that Prometheus (the candy apple red) is for Caprica

LOL, I just notice that :-[- Yep, I ment the (candy apple red) for Caprica 8)

I know in the original series. Galactica and Pegasus was referred to as "Coloumbia Class". But with the rienvision series? That's all up in the air now. -BR32

The old series only had one class: Columbia which both Pegasus and Galactica were part of.
The new series has three classes (thus far), of those three classes only one is named: Mercury - which Pegasus belongs to. The other two classes seen have no names, The Valkyrie belongs to one, and Galactica belongs to another. Since these two classes arent named, they are often refered to as the Valkyrie-type and the Galactica-type. Unfortunately, as far as I can tell, Coxxon did not make a Valkyrie-type Battlestar model. I havent explored his models completely yet, so i could be wrong.

OMG, FOAS, if that's what you do when you're sick, "May you never get better"  :D

When I saw those vipers I laughed for about a minute, that was great. Not because it was funny per se, (the textures are immaculate) it was because of the Irony.

PLEASE release all your BSG tinkerings.  Plus, if you do, I formally would like to ask permission in particular to try a conversion of those 2 vipers for FS2 just for the SHOCK value alone! Also the Dauntless because she's sweet!

Thank you much ^_^.

Since these are modification of Coxxon's stuff, and he released them with the idea of people doing whatever they want, I wouldn't feel comfortable hording them to myself. Once I get home and I finish what I have planned for the fleet, they will be released.

Be back later, my girlfriend is calling me.

Awesome... I had already begun those conversions so it should be merely as simple as renaming textures? If not, no biggie.

But did you really need to mention your GF? (jealous) I think this isn't the first time you've done so... (kidding)

+1 karma for awesome textures and the fact that you're still "Getting some"...  Now that's Multi-tasking!

Pretty much. Ive actually replaced the default textures with mine, but I'll release them as different textures.
Lol, yeah - I wouldnt put it quite like that (getting some) but she's seriously awesome. I head home tomorrow, and I want to push out a quick-and-dirty model of the Lyrans I designed, Then this stuff gets finalized, including the recolors that BlackRook requested.
Speaking of which:
BlackRook - in one post you indicated that this was before Season 2 of BSG came about, as if to say they weren't pegasus-style but your list indicates that some of the battlestars are Mercury class, which the pegasus belongs to, so please clarify.

I've privately made refitted renditions of the Mercury Class for the BSG Pack released by Dave975 & MadJohn for Bridge Commander. Though the work was originally started during the first season, I've been updating the old fleet pack on my own. Changing some of the Galactica "type" Battlestars over to the Mercury Class from that pack. -BR32

If you are into BSG, FoaS, you might think about giving them a hand over there.  It's a total conversion of the open-sourced FreeSpace 2 engine.

The demo for BTRL is already out and it is awesome. With a few tweaks / balances and the addition of cap ships it will rock. Of all the fan made mods/games out there. I bet this one and Wing Commander Saga get released -- in full and with few if any bugs. The demos for both are impressive to say the least. They are not however the same type of game as SFC. They are first person space shooters. One of my favorite genres. WC3 and Privateer helped me make it through a remote one year ground tour in Korea.

Check out the sites and download at links below:

http://www.game-warden.com/bsg/

http://www.wcsaga.com/

Both mods are based on the Free Space 2 code that was made open source by Volition and have been rewickered in a MAJOR way. Rewickerd so much, in fact, that they are more games unto themselves than mods. The original FS2 is not required to play either one. I can only imagine what the talented folks here at dynaverse could do if the code to OP or SFC3 was made open source...

OT but I digress -- Here's a link to a great open source game that remade WC Privateer. I like the FS2 Game Engine better but this'll do and the price is right :D.

http://priv.solsector.net/news.htm

Now back to the topic.

I hope you're better FoaS. Any plans on releasing the Colonial and Cylon fleet with all the support ships  pictured in your forum topic at DRS?
http://wickedzombie45.proboards46.com/index.cgi?board=ShipReleasesandPreviews&action=display&thread=1189127572

It could start an SFC Sci Fi modfest that would make even Chris Jones proud? I can help convert to SFC3 format,  if you need it.

Send one my way with suggested specs for HP/DP (I work best with pictures) and I'll see what I can do.  I prefer 3ds format but can take max 4.2. If I can make ya happy with one maybe we can form a regular frakkin' team  ::) My email is in my profile.

Very nice, but a little unrealistic at over 60k polys (unless they rebuilt it since the WIP debut. They said it DID work in game however).

In my fic I thought a lot about how GTVA would rebuild the TOS Pegasus as well as start their own Battlestar line (phasing out Orion Class). I determined that NBSG is the way to go thanks to FOAS!

They are sitting on my harddrive. Haven't messed with them in a while.
I can upload the texture maps without a problem when I stop being lazy.

They did have textures, but they were not very good. They were back from when Atolm used MSPaint. Also, the unwrapping was bad, as well as now that I have tweaked them, the need to be unwrapped again.

You know, I've been asking myself a question: Why do Vipers have a monopoly as Colonial Fighters?

Say "goodbye" to that.

From Clockwise from the top:

 - Spectre fast interceptor
The spectre served as a fast interceptor and scout for the Colonial fleet. It's service began just before the Cylon war, in which it took the role of fast interceptor and scout. It mounted two DBC-16 engines that give it a high acceleration. In contrast to that, the Spectre is rather ungainly. The cockpit is behind the center of mass and thus the effects of inertia of any maneuver is the opposite of expected. Those pilots who got used to the akward arrangement grew affectionate of the craft. However, its oddities kept it from gaining the mass popularity of the viper.
(I know, its the Delta-7 from Star Wars episode II, but I felt the thing looks so damn good in Colonial colors, i couldn't resist)

 - Viper MkII
(Need i say anything?)

 - Mirage
The Mirage is an atmospheric craft. Its purpose is to serve as a fire support platform for Colonial Marines as well as a strike aircraft.

 - Scorpion
The Scorpion is an alternative to the Viper. Less maneuverable, but more powerful engines and more room for weapons hardpoints allows it to be a powerful strike craft, without being as large or ungainly as the Colonial Bomber, while still being somewhat capable of performing in a dogfight.

 - Viper MkVII
(again, need I say anything?)

EDIT!
Second image with a lower depth of field, so the Spectre doesnt look so small, and the Scorpion doesn't look so huge.

i don't like the color, look like the forgot to paint the fighter.

have you try to do kinda kitbash with fighter?

a mix of starwars and galactica, B5 only have 1 type of fighter or you could re imagine some fighter from B5, i need to get my printer/scanner and my old scanner platfor and the software for it and try to make some sketch for fighter.

I love the new Cylon cap ships! The Helichoppers are quite original and if the textures for them turn out as well as the other examples here - they will be instant classics. Thanks for sharing FoaS. I can't wait to give them all a shot in game.

Are you panning on an OP or SFC 3 version (or both)?

Have you thought about creating a texture for the Galactica Class Battlestars that is "fully skinned" vs. all the ribs and repairs showing? It would be cool to see one of her in "mint" condition.

I know I should make a texture of the Mint galactica - but that's going to be a lot of work. Whilst I don't mind said work, I'd rather finish up the helichoppers first.

They look like starfish mating - is that a comment as to their design, the kitbashes, or the new textures?

I don't mind the mkVII colors. I actually prefer it to the mkVII colors in the series. (the series didnt have the darker band on it). But, yes, ultimately i like the MkII colors the most.

1,442 on the heavier one. 2,571 on the lighter.
That may jump just a little as I'm thinking about adding articulated Ailrons.

sure, the galactica don't have the place for a carrier to hold it, and since it made for a planet the galactica is too big to land on a planet and use it for patrol when you have vipers.

It wouldn't be used during the series - neither Galactica, nor Pegasus, would have any. Just felt like making them.

Basic texturing done. Needs some grime, but otherwise pretty much done.

I've always thought the Galactica had missing plating on the hull, any chance we could see a fully armoured Galactica type BS?

I really want ALL of these ships.

how do you overcome the rotational torque on the single rotor chopper? Wouldn't you still need that extra fan? Or is it designed with counter rotating blades..one on top of the other??

I'm looking into alternative plating techniques. It may be as simple as i need to make the lines thinner.

To answer your question Starforce: yes, the Mirage uses twin counter-rotating blades.

A full armored galactica would be a lot of work. If i get to it, ill get to it, but isn't a priority for me right now.

seeing a fully plated Galactica would be awsome... but I'm just as happy seeing more of the fine work you're doing as it is!!
God said to the Welsh: 'I am going to give you this glorious land of lakes and mountains.' So where's the catch, asked the Welsh? 'Wait until you see the neighbours,' replied God.

It's all in the lighting.

GI Lighting to show off the colors of the textures. I went with a grey scheme, as per the show. Light on the outside, dark on the inside. I also added a dark silver trim to the inside as well.
