.. but then there is the question of whether or not we fill a request from someone just because we do or don't like a design. I've done several ships as requests that people flamed, and did so because there was a request for it. The Alseides comes to mind as one. Looks like a fanboy design, but it was fun to do and helped me develop some colored illumination skills that I used on later ships as well.
Bernard is asking for a legitimate kitbash, and whether we like it or not, shouldn't be the answer.
What I'd suggest would be that we design a replacement that makes sense, but also consider re-doing the kitbash with more up-to-date components. That way there'll be two projects that develop from a single request, and that just adds to the available choices for people.
your right in your statement in helping others, as I did when I "designed-a-bash" that
thing.
And I do not take my designs seriously at all, it is all fiction afterall...But a bad bash is still a bad bash. (and by bad I mean stuff (like the alseides included) just slapped on.)
As I said before, I don't have a problem with bashes, in fact, I promote them, but dropping nacelles, multiple ones, or saucers from different ships that just don't go (size and scale and era crossing) together just creates havoc...mainly because the textures of said pieces were not altered to be universal (that is a huge problem right there) flowing texture, or the design eras differe so much as they just literally do not go or fit... as before mentioned some stuff just doesn't go with each other...Now again, I personally don't care for wild-nuts kind of bashes SFB is notorious for ...and I'm not even going to touch FASA...but thats not the point, you cannot just slap on son connie struts on a Gall saucer, add some TOS wooden-class hulls as nacelles , and just expect it to work (other than an idea...I'll explain more on that further down)
You want to use an excelsior hull with connie nacelles then by all means go for it, that's totally cool with most of us as it is a personal prefference, but it will look like crap unless it was some-what thought out. Look at my McCoy, you could easily bash a similar ship by using: a top of a deadalus saucer on an excelsior hull, with Connie struts and 4 modifed oberth engines...but it wassen't bashed, but you would need to create a universal texture to make it work as the McCoy was designed and meshed.
Bashes are fun (at least to me) because they show you ideas that "could be", or make excellent variants for the class like an CA vs CC vs FSC but if you take a connie saucer and hull and drop a third nacelle on it you automatically seem to get a DN (?) ! That makes no sense...but, if you take that bash and say it was a proposed model or mock-up for a more designed vessel that incorporated 3 nacelles, then you got something.
So bash away mates...But lets also start seeing some "finished" ideas on those terms as well...
I draw upon good Bash ideas for even inspiration on full-fledged designs...So get with it people
