OT- Help bring the ORIGINAL Star Wars to DVD.......
« on: March 18, 2003, 01:09:15 pm »
For those of you who love the ORIGINAL Star Wars and DVD please help out..

The goal is quite simple... to convince director George Lucas to release the original theatrical versions of the Star Wars movies on DVD. There's nothing wrong with the upgraded special editions he's got planned, but we want the films as we remember them preserved on DVD too!

I had this posted in the OT forum, but I know some of you here won't touch that place with a 10 foot poll, but I feel it's important so I posted it here.

Oh COME ON.  George Lucas has NOTHING to gain from producing 100,00's of copies of the original outdated film that hardley anyone will buy.  Good luck but come on, its outdated, the spiecal edition is the preferred choice for most fans, but iots not going to happen really is it?

bummer, I thought I recalled reading that they were going to put both copies on the DVD set. Oh well, I would probably just watch the updated version anyway.

If I can ask a dumb question... <puts on dumb blonde look>... what are the differences between the two versions?

The original (which the petition is for) is what was released to the movie theaters all those years ago.

The Special Edition has computer added extras and a few added scenes.  Personally I grew up with the originals and those are the ones we are pushing for DVD release.  Lucas is going to release all 6 movies to DVD once he's done with the 3rd. His SUPER EXTRA MEGA GRANDE SPECIAL EDITIONS.  Those signing the petition want the movies we grew up with, but we will also buy the new versions.

Wait a minute. I thought Lucas said he wasn't going to put out the first trilogy because of reasons being: 1) He felt releasing those movies already onto VHS for the special edition was enough and 2) He expressed his concern recently about Episodes IV-VI being unfinished and incomplete and not worthy of a DVD re-release.

I'm pretty sure he said these things as of late. I had assumed that after Episode III, there would be no re-release of the original three, only a collector's package of the latest three (Whew! Too many 3s up in here!) But I suppose its possible Lucas has changed his mind (wait, I'm not even sure if that is possible).

You are correct.  That's the reason for this petition. He originally wasn't going to release Star Wars EP1 on DVD either, but a petition was put together which resulted in a DVD release.  We are hoping that this petition may garnish the same results.
