Frustrated- looking for SFC3
« on: August 26, 2007, 02:59:15 pm »
When SFC3 came out in 2002 and was $50 or something, I thought it looked cool, and I waited until I thought it would be about $15.

Then I looked on eBay recently and saw a new copy for $84.00, and a CD-only for $50.00. That is outrageous!!! :o Amazon.com wasn't any better either. Why is this game so rare?

I'll probably go to the mall sometime soon and see if EB Games or Best Buy has it on the cheapie rack, but I'm not hopeful. I heard the game isn't as complex as the previous ones, but it still looks fun and I haven't played a TNG game other than Armada.

Anyone know of a way to get it for cheaper? Or if you don't think it's a good game, warn me please  ;)

Thank you,
Rob

The mods for SFC3 improved the quality of the game expontentially.  Anyone around will tell you that.

However, to answer your question as to why the game is so expensive, Activision ordered that any copies that stores still had in stock be returned and Activision pretty much destroyed them, and stopped support of the game completely, with the exception of the access servers, which they recently terminated.  Luckily, the access servers were handed over to the boys here at Xenocorp, so all is well on the D3 front.

However, your chances of finding a copy of the game anywhere in a physical store are not very good, and that's being optimistic.  If you want to find a copy that's cheap, your best bet is to find someone with the game that doesn't want it and is willing to sell for a reasonable price.

Can you battle a Borg Cube in OP?  Nuff said.

Once you find your copy of SFC III, get the required patches and happy hunting.

For Borg, that is.

May the wreaths they have won never wither,
Nor it's stars cease to shine on the brave.

You can download the game at various sites or get a friend to send you a copy of the game. www.abandonware.com has it for a minimal charge. However, I dont know about the key code. Best thing is to borrow one from someone who doesnt play it anymore or rarely. You'll only run into problems if both of you try to log in at the same time.
But then again with D.net having the access servers this might not be an issue anymore. This is a Q for Frey I guess. good Luck and look forward to flying with you.

Thanks for the answers,

Now I want it more lol! I didn't know that Activision recalled it, those bad people. If it's not in any stores, maybe I should buy or trade from someone who has it but doesn't want the game. I'll throw in Klingon Academy, don't really play that anymore. Or get it abandonware.

Actually, I was thinking of just playing the single player and gamespy/standard multiplayer, so that wouldn't be a problem if there would be issues with Dynaverse and a key code.

Looking forward to flying,
Rob

Unless the D3 servers go the same route as the D2 servers when it comes to the CD Key, then you won't be able to play any multiplayer campaigns.  Only multiplayer you'll be able to play are TCP/IP and gamespy skirmishes.  The single player missions really aren't all that good, and that's why people play the online camps.  There's a key floating around the net that's 0000 something or other, and that'll allow the game to be installed with no problems.  As ONE said, the CD Key check may or may not be an issue anymore.  Only Xenocorp can answer that.

am I to infer from this post that the D2 servers do not validate the CD keys anymore on D.net?

Hay RIS Mace! Once you get the SFC: III up and going, The GFL (Galactic Forign Legion) have a mod out called the LAW Mod (Legions at War).  Basically, this mod adds more missions, highest resolution graphics pack for SFC: III, and a fun as can get-out player base!  There’s more, but I think you'll do MUCH better experiencing the Mod for yourself! Owe, and did I mention that when the GFL play against in-experienced pilots, we downgrade or give you a chance to escape without DB'ing you right there.  It is the Balance mod of the game, all vessels are balanced to there race.  If your looking for SFC:III and a Mod to balance the game with 200+ balanced ships (BY FARE not including refit count) than the LAW mod is for you.  This mod, and reading more about it can be found here at the GFL web-site: http://www.gfluniverse.org/

We will help you out as much as possible.  Only thing is bud, heh, 85 bucks is actually cheap compared to a bud of mine that bought it for 110.  Which is a complete rip-off, heh?
Get with the GFL and we will guide you on how to get her going; and possibly how to get the game.
The Mod takes place after the TNG era.

By the way, RIS...hmmm your Rihhansu...yes, the Director of the Tal Shi'ar would be most pleased...as would The Praetor...
Yes, come home Brother!
Put up a post in the Law Mod Forum section and let us help you with your SFC: III endeavor.

Yes, there is NOTHING checking OP CD keys regarding a D2 login.

200 ships is a lot! I thought the original game only came with like 6 for each race. I can't wait to get the game and try this mod.

Ghostfleet you play Rihhansu too? How are they in Starfleet Comm 3?

Well, of course. lol I am The Supreme...  well, that is to be my business, non-others.  The Imperial Praetor is Vriha (meaning high) GFLGeemanFC and was my teacher when I was a young Rihanna. (FC meaning Fleet Commander)
You see, the great thing about the GFL is that we are all skilled pilots, the game intensity has been increased up too 3-4 times greater and so Tact is a must in this game or you will die.  AI are just as great as most med human players and still increasing...some around 30% are just as good as a High rated human player.  The mediums are there to develop new human players in a sort of simulated pvp skill test.  Do not EVER give-up, fleet with your team-mates when needed or just for fun.  By the way, The GFL are MORE than happy to engage in PvP when asked or challenged, the public player may decline.  A Tal Shi'ar or Ex-Tal Shi'ar may attemt to sway you unkowingly in a direction by not attacking you.  But for the most part, it's not a Human avoiding everybody and only going for AI thing, there is ALWAYS PvP going on if two rival human players are on Dyna.
Something that until 4.0 we all agreed with, GFL rules dictated that there were to be no Scan-wars (Doing missions in enemy hexes so you don't have to wait for AI to enter a hex for DV).  Well now, GFLMCM our Scripter has scripted the Single player missions to be were they WILL NOT EVEN APEAR in enemy hexes so you don't have to worry about enemy empires taking your hexes illegally via scan-war.
Regarding help with flying, Any GFL with any empire would be more than happy to train you, most initiates choose not too and so learn the hard way that there are do's and don'ts if you want to live and stay that way in the future Alpha quadrant; however it is encouraged.
The Rihhansu Star Empire is known as they should be, we are mysterious. GFL Geeman and I have made it this way... we are feared, and are intimidating... even a close death of a trained Rihhana has the enemy weary as we have used this tactic to monitor there stratigy via all acounts and come back later victorious.  The Rihhansu tactics are accelerated in the GFL LAW Mod.  Real Romulan strategy is employed and it is not unheard of to enter a battle and cloak only to get there favorite refits, warp out, re-refit to counter there refit and murder them after. lol This is mostly a Tal Shi’ar basic maneuver and is widely known so I share it.  ANYTHING PAST WIDLY KNOWN IS TOP SECRET INFO and will not be shared unless authorized by The Tal Shi'ar. You will begin as a member of Tal Priax, under the revered Tal Priax General GFLRubin.  From there, anything is possible via the right eyes watching your progress.  Even Tal Priax does not know whom is Tal Shi'ar operating within there ranks so always demonstrate your abilities know matter who is with you  ;) The Rihhansu Star Empire, through treaty, espionage, and mental manipulation has catapulted themselves to the top Empire of the Dyna.  LAW Mod AI races include the Cardassians and the infamous Borg Nemesis’; Specie 8472.   Both these AI races are dreaded as they are purposely unbalanced to promote a hard earned victory for experienced players to test there metal!
Our last Dyna lasted 2 years full-throttle, without any Major role-backs no longer than that of 5-10 min; absolutely NO crashes.  To give you an estimate of that, most D: III Dyna’s last no more than 2-3 weeks sometimes a little more or a little less.  Typically, if they last more than 2 weeks, they crash and everyone starts over.  So with those figures, that should give you an idea of the Dyna Stability of the LAW Mod.  This way, you play at YOUR pace, not some crazy campers pace that win the Dyna by himself in a day-night showdown with an over-powered ship mod.  The GFL LAW Mod gives you the chance to get into the Dyna and make a difference on your own WITH your Empire.  By the way, we have campers and none of them could take the Dyna on there own in 2 years playing at the pace they do.  It’s A REAL War Campaign, and a team-effort!
