If memory serves, and I may be wrong about this, The Enterprise was built in San Francisco, and
assembled in orbit, so what we could be seeing really more bare bones than it first appears.
But then again, looking at Gabe's model, we also see how close the nacelles appear to the Primary hull.
GK has publically stated that he did not produce a model that would be used as the Enterprise in the new Trek movie ... just that his and two other designs were being considered. This is why I said 'influenced' rather than, 'yep, it's Gabe's model'. Not ruling out his influence, not saying he had any ... Honestly, folks, it's just way too early to tell.
This is fun though, isn't it ... new designs, new ideas ... gets the cobwebs dusted out of the old bonebox ... fertile ground for a starship designer/model builder ...
