ISC '07
« on: July 18, 2007, 08:00:53 pm »
OK
So thinking more about the ISC wave before I feed the galaxy to the Andros
Still concept (though largely finished)
Major concern is having the sides balance out (ie are there enough ISC pilots)

MAP
-The map will be set up with standard SFB layout.
All "strategic" areas (ie the hexes worth varying amounts of VP) are the only things that will belong to Empires (ie have their colour on the map)
 - bases, planets.asteroids, nebs will be Empire colored, bases will be used to define the empire's borders

All other territory will be neutral, and will not require flipping to establish LOS
LOS will be established by holding VP areas. (see :XXXXXXXXXXXXXX)

<This should give the ISC more of a shot against quick mission time hex flippers>

Empires

Each empire has just finished a grueling war, none really have any ships or will to aid their nominal allies.
Therefore the server would run in 3 stages (unless the ISC chooses otherwise)

1) ISC vs Roms and Gorn
2) ISC vs Feds and Klinks
3) ISC vs Hydran/Lyran/Kzin

The process this would work by it as follows
- The map will have certain VP hexes that the ISC must take and hold (usually base stations along the neutral zones, but there are other targets)
Once a certain number of these hexes are held by the ISC, the corresponding Empire is considered Pacified and will take no further part in the game**

** The ISC may (if it so chooses) press onward and attack the 2nd or 3rd set of Empires before the previous ones are finished.
The ISC may also choose to continue hitting the pacified territory of an Empire (to secure more VP hexes) This will release that Empire to continue the fight.

EX- The ISC pacifies the Gorn and Romulans, then meets fierce resistance along the Fed/Klnk border, worried they may need further VP's for the server end, the ISC tries to secure more
territory in ROm space. Romulan ships may now be flown again.

SHIPLIST

- Shiplist will consist of DH's general list including Xships
- Some partial X conversions will be used
- No Battleships (maybe- do really like the AOTK VP cost for adding the big bateau's)

Fleeting restrictions would be along the establshed SGO/AOTK series

NOTES

Server can either go
3 way (Coaltiion/Alliance/ISC) which I doubt we have enough players for, although more intersting
or
2 Way (ISC vs Everyone)

This setup would
1) Be "truer" to SFB than any other's I've seen (which doesn't actually mean anything..   )
2) Put a strategic aspect decision on the ISC- With a limited time  in order to gain VP they *may* feel they have to engage the next set of enemies before
   the current set is pacified.
3) Keep the racial setups "pure" No having Kzin flip ISC hexes on day 1, or have Gorn ships running missions against the ISC under the cover of Hellbores etc
4) Allow a bit more (hopefully) options or surprsie in fleet movements, by having most VP hexes surrounded by neutral space, there's no absolute way to watch someone work their way towards a hex. Supply lines would be cut by attacking an actual VP target rather than "empty hex 17,16"

Problems
- The big one is that some players would not be able to play theri favourite races until/if they are attacked or after/if the race is pacified.

You wanna give the ISC a flipping edge?   Lower the BPVs significantly.

Lower the BPV's? seems kinda ..actually not a bad idea..hmmm

But no, I'd like to try out this idea and set how many of you can find things that <expletive deleted> up the idea.
Honeslty I think it's a good one that will work, (but admittedly I tend to think that way about all my ideas)

Also would put ISC fleets against racial fleets , really bored (which is kinda funny since I so rarely play these days) with the mixing of fleets
to cover any weakness.

At the campaign start, I would just have the ISC with a pacified "volunteer" ally that excels at hex flipping. Like ISC and Klingons allied to take on the other empires piecemeal.

Yeah- but this is my concept for a "purist" ISC invasion
I'm just working on the details to get a workable (and fun) server as close to SFB "norms" as possible.

Also always interested in seeing if people will fly on a "I can't mix Gorn PF tenders with Fed CF's and a B11k? How am I supposed to win?" server.

With Traditional enemies and borders, you can fight each other fine without mutli-race co-op.   It's when we mixup the alliance and jumble the map so that everyone is fightint over a 10x10 area where things get jumbled.  Take Gorn versus Hydran as an example.

Perhaps, with this server at least, the 'Capital' Ship in the fleet must have one wing of the same race?

Dunno
The more I think about it, and the more I kinda like the idea ,the more I'm sure it won't work.
Wanted to keep the races fighting the ISC 1 on1 (or maybe 2 on 1) so they couldn't really cover any weakness they might have.
I'm thinking if one lets one side fly with allies, the ISC would need allies, then I've got to decide who allies with teh ISC.

Other problem is of coruse I'm not sure how many would show up for the first few days of a ISC vs Rom/Gorn plasma slugfest  :P
