Federation heavy command cruiser (CB) released
« on: July 13, 2007, 08:00:15 pm »
As stated in the WIP thread, this is intended to be an interim refit between the TOS and TMP Connies. There weren't a lot of this class of ship. The refit was supplanted by the 1st generation X-cruiser. Some ships, The Vincennes for instance, received the CB refit prior to receiveing the X refit. The Enterprise did not. She went straight to 1st gen X-class.

She's up at battleclinic
http://www.battleclinic.com/docks/dock.php?id=4420
P.S. I got the idea for the nacelles from a X-class design I saw at Treknographx. Bernard Guignard's site. The bridge inspiration came from Gabe Koerner's revisioned Enterprise. They aren't replicas of those designs, but I wanted to credit those guys for the inspiration.

Appreciate it, FW. I made a wee mistake. I uploaded it with 24bit litemaps. I've replaced it with 8bit maps. If you DL'd the one that was 5+ meg either redownload it with the current one or you can convert the litemaps to 8bit yourself if you'd prefer. No point in using an extra 10meg of VRAM though.

Sorry 'bout that :-[

Hi Rod
WoW thanks for mentioning Treknographx  ;D its so quiet there at times I wonder if people are even checking out my little corner of the Trek Tek universe.  ;D I know I try to do more but Real Life tends to get in the way  :) I really appreciate the comment. and great work on her  ;D

Awesome Rod -thanks for the release. I wish I had more time to work on my Shadow Fleet so I could get them out.

This designe provides a really nice transition between TOS and TMP. Nicely done.

I've got the "Excaliber" design from your site, Bernard, too. So, there's more stuff I've found there floating in the cue to be done.
I'm glad you like her, redneck15. Thanks.
Sorry, MP. I thought you were trying to show me what it was supposed to look like. lol I was giong to have to kill you if you didn't know it was a CB not a CC. I'm sure that someday I'll give into the urge to make the CC version of the TOS Connie. I really like the ones with the needles on the nacelles though (I know they're campy, but I dig'em.) and would probably do one of those first.

I've got the mesh for Atolm's TMP Chicago-class done (another schematic I found at Treknographx) and all clean of any mesh errors and ready to be mapped. I'm gonna post the WIP at DRS where  Atolm's been "on the lamb" lately. That'll be my next Feddy. I've got to get onto more Rommies too. I've got a Gorn or 2 left as well.... :banghead:

Is it possible to get blank saucer textures? I.e without registry. Would be great seeing this ship rendered in NanoFX GE with full bumpmapping and specularmapping :D

Hey Rod, great work on the Vincennes! Got her in game now. That Helena class ship is another beauty I'd love to see in the game. I,Mudd had a Helena about 75% done before his hard-drive crash. If you decide to take a crack at her, I'll be waiting with baited breath.

Do you want the regs, name and number, removed from everywhere? i.e. the sides of the nacelles, sides of the engineering hull, sides of the saucer, top/bottom of the saucer?

I've pretty much decided that I'm gonna do a hipoly version of her. If I do I can use it to make Specular maps. That's not on the top of my to do list ATM though.

MP, I want to do it. I started it once but couldn't get the front of the engineering to look right. I'll work at it again sometime though. That's the plan, anyway.

Yes please. Blank texture maps with no visible registry. Would look kinda odd having a bumped registry, when it sits flat on the ships hull :D

I take it that's rendered by a game engine? Looks damned good, IMO.

It looks like it doesn't quite like colored lllumination maps. Would grayscale light it up better?

Actually, the illumination is in greyscale on that render. Thing is, Nano hasnt implemented "glows" yet if you were to compare it to BC. Only rendering the illumination (alpha channel) from the various texture maps. After the new viewer version gets released to the public, he's gonna start working on adding features to the graphics engine.

Head on over to www.nanofx.org for more information and up-to-date status. More activity = Good :)

Tried downloading it and installing it, and it crashed bigtime with an error right on boot.

Any things to watch for to get it working?

You need the Microsoft.NET package (1.1 or higher), as well as the latest DirectX 9.0c update.

Within a few days, the new viewer version should be released to the public. Were going through the final bug testing as we speak.

EDIT: Sorry for the hijacking of the thread. Perhaps I should start a new one, advertising some news regarding NanoFX GE? :D

NP darkthunder. It's not hijacking at all. Besides, even if it was Alec would be allowed. We don't put limitations on old timers like him. :P

Thanks, Starforce.

Hey, I was trying to be relevant to the thread and SFC.. I was asking about the model viewer because building a mesh for SFC, converting it to Nano-GFX with Spec and Bump mapping, generating screen shots, and scaling them could nicely do up SFC3 TI, BS, and VL shots when converting to SFC 3, or just doing up some nice wallpaper.  :D

The only limitation is the lack of colored glows.. but for SFC 3 conversions, that wouldn't be an issue.  And I like how you used it for the CB release shot.  :)

And if I hijacked the thread, sorry about that.. must mean I need to take more of my old-timers meds... ;)

No, Alec. It wasn't hijacking at all by either of you. We all enjoy seeing what others are doing with our stuff. There's no other reason to release them, really. I was just taking the opportunity to have a little go at you and pay homage to your longevity in the community at the same time. I was just kidding you a bit. I hope you didn't misunderstand.
