ive had two separate incidences on placing a base...

i lost my ship to the hand of bethke on load...was able to finish the mission in the base...it placed...but i was now without a replacement ship and had to buy one...this was solo flying a d5d...dv shifted normally...luckily im not a cheating twat as i could have gone on an expedition around the map with no ship to draw a mission with...

second one i was flying with talon in his cly i was in a ccy and the base was actually tethered to my ccy and followed me around to all the targets...base was placed and dv shifted normally...

thanks braxton...frey!

stargates dont work properly...went to foldspace from the lyran hw to the klink hw and ended up 6 hexes nw of the klink hw...

That is a feature.  There is a 25% chance that the gate will fail ;)

Gate failure was possible when Bonk made it and there was a warning on the wormhole page, but I had never heard of anyone having a failure. Did you increase the odds of failure Braxton?

Nasty Guy!    ;D  I would like to suggest that for future weekend experiments that DVs be lower. 12 doesn't allow for small numbers of players to get anywhere that would allow you to test pvp aspects much. Try DVs of 5, at least in neutral space for a 2 day test.

In a year under Bonk's testing, we only had one good turnout and that was after a lot of begging. That was after several months of evening test servers with only 5 to 10 players ever showing up for an evening test. Perhaps if a test were to be scheduled in the middle of a regular campaign for an evening, we could get good numbers?

I had hoped that by making a minicampaign out of the test that people who show up, but sadly it seems I was wrong.  I don't know if it is lack of interest or caring, but it is certainly frustrating from the development end of things.  Some of the server admins have some great idea on things they want to see, but when we want something as simple as a weekend test run with a good period of notice, five or six people show up.  Oh well, not my loss in the end really.

maybe we should shoot for a longer run...say maybe a week...3 days is a short amount of time...and though its clearly shown that a few people for one side can do damage to this map in a short amount of time...maybe its 3 days that stopped people from playing...i dunno...had i known i would have flown with deadman...since jeff seemed to be the only other alliance ive seen on...asides from draco who cannot seem to pick a side and somehow always puts a ` in each of his names though we have asked him continuously not too...had there been more of a turn out he would have been an issue again...

It because people burn themselves out on the big campaigns because they care more for winning than playing the game.  So, when the opportunity comes to play the game and do something to benefit us all, they are elsewhere.

It's because "test" is a four letter word on the D2 .

Wrong as that is.

Thanks for trying though Brax.

It's not a test.  It's a mini-campaign.  If there weren't these maxi-campaigns that kill the will to live, people would be more active on a regular basis.

Exactly, I tried to make a campaign out of it, and granted what you said in your PM is all valid, Hexx, this community isn't going to get it's much desired server kit if no one shows up.  Pretty simple really, everyone on the development team is a volunteer and I am not going to force them to stick around and work on stuff if the community can't show enough interest to come out for a weekend and play a little miniature campaign.

That is my view on it, if people in the community wish to help promote this, I won't object, but based on what I have seen so far, I won't waste my time trying to set this up again.  Could have spent the time I was setting up this server installing and putting up a BF2 server on Thor.

mine either!

thanks braxton!  great idea!  dont give up please!

i had hoped that making our way to 8.15 after hooking up allied space on saturday would have brought some alliance around for pvp action at least...but no...even thought after making LOS for all coalition would bring more coalition as well...but no...

loved hearing all the comings and goings on TS...then reading later who they were wondering why they didnt at least give it a shot...

i was hoping for a little pvp on a semi serious server where dying wasnt so drastic or dramatic...but again...no...oh well...i had fun!

we could always just hide the test behind a serious server where people are known to show...then listen to them complain when it doesnt go because we have to wait for someone to build it on a flatfile...the irony would be fantastic and wonderfully exciting...

and not too be rude or anything but the masses are not the only ones to blame when there was barely a show of the QA Team either...

Call me a cheat or a liar, or just down right lazy and or a tease.....  ( I just don't have time when working 60+ hours Sept-April)

But if Storm Season III ever happens, it will be on SQL.  SS2 brought everyone to OP from EAW, and SS3 will  use SQL or it wont run.
Maybe that could be the test... ;)
