OK, (in this order) I uninstalled op+, then uninstalled atok3, then reinstalled op+ as per LK's directions.

I start the game, but I don't hear the "beep" when you click stuff like login buttons etc. but I do hear the background music.
Now when I get to the login screen to go to the campaign selector, all the boxes are blank.

Usually it says "checking patch...etc. and lists my account name, password etc. but tis all empty and it wont let me type anything in the boxes.

Now, here's the kicker, it will still light up the login button to get to the campain selector screen after a few secs. I can select the forge but it wont let me type anything into the name box when you decide on a race. And thats as far as i can go.

Last time this happened (on the SGO7 server) I had to reinstall everything from scratch. Do I have to do this again?

PS: DH, no more installer/uninstaller packages from you unless they work pls. >:(

Why do people keep installing/unistalling crap?

All you have to do to switch between(most) servers is switch out the ship & fighter list and ( maybe) a few mission scripts.
And you'd only have to do the mission scripts if a server is using older versions of certain missions.

Two (2!!!!) files.
Well and maybe a model.siz file- still shouldn't be this many people having issues.

I'll write up a genius like post in a second here..

Kaz, try just going to desktop and back to the login screen, or any other screen that you need to type.  This is a little bug that sometimes shows up after an install.  This will fix it, you just have to remember to do it every time you start the game or you  wont have a keyboard in the game if you ever get there(ie IP game, GSA, single player).  The only way to permanently fix it is a re-install unfortunately.

I know what you're getting at Dfly, the keyboard bug right? Yeah that works for sure, but the all the boxes on the login screen are blank. Usually your login name, password, etc are already there as well as the text that comes up when its checking your patch or gives you the firewall message, etc. But, its all blank and it still lights up the login for me even tho everything is blank.

When I went to reinstall the game after SGO7 due to the SAME problem, it wouldnt finish installing citing an error in the moving of files.
I actually had to go to a restore point before the start date of SGO7 to ensure the game worked for ATOK3.
Kinda sucked. :(

Only other problem I have ever had similarly was that my original disk is too scratched to give me a proper game.  I have to use my copy to install.

You had a uninstaller option...?  :o
I didn't... :-\
Shoot, I did what I did and prayed....
If you had a uninstaller icon, all you should have to do is run it and you'd be back to OP+4.0 (assumming you didn't have other mods already)
At least that's they way it used to work with Bonk and Pesty's installers...
Simple...easy to use...I like that in a women installer...  :P

Just re-install OP+4.   That's it, that's all you need to do to "remove" the AOTK3 stuff

I know there are few clear cut rules for this server, but...
Transfers to other races to buy ships and then going back is one thing, but these transfers need to at LEAST be confined to the same side.
ie: Coalition only flying Coalition ships and Alliance only Alliance ships.
IMOPO, transfering to get an enemy ship you may like really shouldn't be happening.

I thought bonk had fixed it so you could only transfer to an aliied race.  Could someone before the next reset please pull that stupid planet hex patrol mission where you wind up having to attack a convoy and then due to its buggy nature, it's declared a loss after winning the mission and you walk away with 50 PP?

FleetAdmiral DreadPirateGeek - (15,13) in mission
FleetAdmiral Gruesome - (24,5) in mission
RearAdmiral H1AF-deadman - (21,8) in mission

These 3 have been displayed for 6 days now on the OCI. Something broken or are these three extraordinary nutters?  ;D

Well, The Forge 3rd addition is down.
It's still The fragmentation Effect that is running.
They must have been on when it was taken down, sort of ghosted on the OCI.
My guess, anyway...

As always, The Forge remains a simple, persistent server for the entire community.  All OCI features remain the same as always.

The map will likely be changing either later today or in about a week, all depends on when I have time.  I will do my best to relocate all accounts created to friendly space when this happens.

Have fun everyone!

Thank you. (+1sir, +100 if I could...hmmm where's that old db login... ;))

The Forge is showing up in the campaign selection screen but no one seems to be able to log on.  It gives the full two minute countdown then says an error occured.

A short while ago, I switched races, fed to kzinti and traded in my ndc at the shipyards for an MDC. I logged onto the forge several minutes later to find I had no ship whatsoever.  :(

Yes, yes it is working perfectly.  I lost another one through the shipyards with the OCI at the start of my just finished little tour.  I guess I will stick to the server yard. Could it be something with the MDC? It was the same ship both times.

Perhaps.  I will look in the log tomorrow and see if I can find the incidents of Krueg's superweapon.... Er... I mean the problem.  Any chance you could give me a specific time (Like the hour) it happened?

Without the OCI up to check my first mission time, around 10 pm eastern. If you see the first mission end time and back it up about 12 minutes, that should do it. ( I waited about the full 5 minutes for a new ship and then a 6 or 7 minute mission. I traded on the OCI a few minutes before logging onto the server.

Battle finished at: 2007-11-04 21:28:05   OCI is up, just figure about ten minutes earlier.

I ran a mission (raid) on a planet I had just taken.  I won the mission, went to debrief, saw I won and got the rewards, then started with the standard starting ship, losing my LC.  The hex did go up as it should have for a win, but my ship was destroyed for no reason.  I dont want the points back or nothing, just thought you should know.

The Raid mission seems to be bugged.  The last 5 or 6 times I've flown it, after destroying all the freighters, I leave the escort ship alone and move for the border.  The debriefing screen shows you getting around 1,000 PP but it also declares the mission a failure and the hex DV is unaffected.

if its the one with rocks...just head south to the border and dont waste your time...this one has been fixed but since we are using an older mission pack...oddities will exist...

also...the convoy raid missions will draft an ally of a different race as your enemy...so watch out for that one if youre wingin with anyone...

On the OCI report a kill page, there is no way for entering a battle where one of the enemy pilots flew off the map.  I can only choose between a kill or a capture, but one of the enemy died and the other left the map.  I have not reported the kill.  It is not worth points, but is a kill.

I also have one othe comment/question about that battle last night.  I just looked at the ship kills section and it shows that I won the mission, but lost a DV shift.  Here is a copy of it.  It was at 2 Lyran when I was drafted.  It went to 1? (the colors show in the ship kills page) Am I reading it right?

Destroyed:
Hunter's F-NCD+ BPV:130 Dmg:75%

Survived:

I have switched it to flatfile until I can determine what is making it unstable, when it should not be since it has not been up long enough to get that clogged yet.. I have some time off around Thanksgiving so I will look into it over this coming week, until then, were on flatfile while we go into stabilization mode.
Sorry for the delay by the way.. havent felt the best this weekend, and I have had a lot to catch up on this weekend as well. *sighs*

A backup database has been uploaded, as well we are now on a new Server.. SQL Server 6.0 on the Falcon Engine. For now, try to log on, run a few missions, I successfully logged on and played a mission without it going boom. If it hasnt crashed then that will ID the problem 100% dead on. Hope it does not crash then we can finally run stable min-campaigns again, and get The Forge reset back to normal as well!
If it does crash then I'll have to look into it more..
This is a old old backup from 2006, so dont be shocked if you log on have a different character. OCI is online for it as well. We are going back to.

Well, I am slowly phasing the server back to a stable Forge using a reverse linear approach.. standby! These new results are encouraging :)

OK, I believe it is stable.. only been up about an hour, but that is longer then it has in the past, be gentle, but go ahead and try to log in. DB wipe, so you'll be creating a new character on login.

I lost the connection two times in a row during Planetary Assault missions around 5:30 A.M. EST this morning.  The Forge is showing on the selector but it is not allowing anyone to log onto the server.  The "unkown error" message comes up.

I lost the connection twice between around 7:30 P.M. EST and 9:00 P.M.  I refreshed the selector screen several times and the Forge didn't reappear.

Patience is obviously not one of your dominant qualities... :P
There have always been ups and downs in the D2, you must learn to ride the waves...  ;D
Either that or become more active by sharing your wealth of knowledge about the inner workings of running server software and/or by making donations to XenoCorp to help pay for (since one man alone has been doing that for a long time, out of his pocket) the hardware that keeps it running.

Otherwise, learn more patience.  ;)

rude?

or

eager?

patience is a virtue...   ;)

and there's always something else to play in the meantime...

OMG!  did i say that?  that has to be a first!

maybe we will get a new and improved map and such with the long wait...

maybe get those new missions and lists back too...

one can always hope...

Maybe amazing, but it makes since.  Name one game that is as good, 'specially after the community has gotten their hands in on it.  I don't think you will find one.

Maybe some publisher will get the idea that they don't have to spend time developing a new game, just tweak this one a little, and make a quick profit.  I think the idiots emptying their bank accounts of the MMORPGs have the developer's attention right now, but the free MMORPGs will bite into that soon.  There are no space sim games on the market.  Eve isn't a game, it's a job you pay to do.

SFC was always a longshot.  I'm amazed the game was ever made.  Seems like Paramount wants to keep tight reign on the cannon, and the old SFB rules are only true to TOS.  The game genre is out of vogue.  Still, the game can be modified enough that it doesn't have to get boring.

With that new Star Trek movie coming out this year there may very well be a renewed interest in the TOS era.  Given the prevalence of cross-promotion in the movie industry these days I wouldn't be at all surprised to find out that there is a Star Trek XI/TOS game already in the works.  Wasn't the latest Spiderman game released either right before or along side the last Spiderman movie?

It's a prequel to TOS with kiddie versions of all our favorite characteres.  Simon "Shaun of the Dead" Pegg has been cast as the young Scotty.  Leonard Nimoy is going to appear as Spock and The Shat has not been included.

Not sure what's going on with the Forge, is it going to be put up again? It's nice to have somewhere to fly....

Just curious
