moding a shiplist

When modifying a shiplist, are there limits to the number of ships a race can have?  Everything I have found to read on this hasn't really said anything on it, but I seem to recall from way back reading something about a hard limit of number of ships/types or such.  Thanks

It's a Binary, either 128 or 256 of each class of ship per race

it's big anough not to really have to worry about then I take it.  I can't see having 128 of one class of ships.  So off to editing I go.
