The good people are still here, but you see, they're still surrounded by morons. And as the population increases, well, there is still the same ratio of morons-to-good-people but since there are so many more morons it seems like all the good people are gone.
Think of it this way.
Do you really want to be surrounded by super-smart people who could take your job and leave you a penny-less hobo selling your body to drunken Japanese businessmen for top-ramen money?
