I can't help it. I have to gloat.
I'd never even SEEN one of her kind in career mode up until the following....written sort of 'documentary style' for an email to a friend and fellow player.

On May 11th 1943, the USS Balao was heading northward through the Makassar Straight near Balikpapan. Receiving a message from SubSoWesPac of an IJN task group in the vicinity, she increased to flank speed toward the mouth of the straight and began to conduct radar sweeps. At 2:12am, a large number of ships were directed heading toward the Balao's position at 12 knots. The submarine set a course to intercept, submerging to 400 feet well in front of the task force.
Around 3 am, the Balao came to periscope depth, sighted many Japanese capital vessels, and pointed her bow toward the juiciest target. Six torpedoes were fired, flank speed was called for, and as soon as the stern came 'round, four aft were also sent racing toward the target. All or nearly all hit the enemy vessel, which slowed to a halt. The following photograph was taken just as the Balao began to dive in the face of a counterattack by six to eight IJN destroyers.
Though dark, Naval Intelligence was able to confirm that the Balao's target was a 62,000 ton Yamato type battleship. Intercepts of coded Japanese radio traffic served to confirm the sinking, though the Balao's crew was quite able to hear the immense break-up noises as the leviathan headed for the bottom.
The submarine levelled off at 400 feet and endured two hours of depth charging, first by the entire task force escort screen, then by a pair of destroyers apparently left to make sure of her. Though no damage resulted, enemy persistence kept the Balao under until well after sunrise, when she was finally able to surface and report her victory.
