Sometimes it pays to do your homework on history. I remember seeing a PBS program about a Brit destroyer that was carrying a bunch of gold for the Russians and was sunk in a convoy attack in the Atlantic. They found it, and could only get so much out of it because of loose ammo and rough currents and that tends to make things go boom.
It's hard to believe that someone did not track it down earlier, I'm sure there was plenty of documentation and a manifest recorded somewhere. At least they hit paydirt when gold just happened to hit highs again.
