Anybody looking for a cheap Gaming PC?
« on: May 12, 2007, 02:41:01 pm »
A guy I work with build and sells PCs online for extra cash.   Most of the time he build bottom of the barrel stuff for cheap and seels on eBay.   He thought he would try to build something high end but now he's stuck with it.  $1700 in parts and he's willing to part with it for $1350.

What's wroing with it?   Nothing, he just can't sell it to his normal clientel of bottom-feeders and he's in debt and needs to liquidate

It looks great, but it is a bit out of my price range for $1300.  I hope he is successful in selling it to recoup some of his investment.  I didn't even know they had 640MB video cards.

System Specs:

Dell Dimension E521
AMD64x2 5000+
2G DDR2 RAM
ATI Radeon HD 4850 512MB GDDR3
250GB SATA HD

P/Cs are like cars of today, they are a loss from the time that you buy them, except P/Cs lose their value a lot faster than a quality car or truck that is well-mainained and has decent mileage.

That video card is 350 bucks now. I imagine it will come down even more as many people are thumbing their noses at Windows Vista and that was supposed to be the thing for DirectX10 (The 8800 is a DirectX10 capable card). I think they will come out with something eventually, but they will make sure us XP users do not get cold-cocked. IMHO. Nem would know more about all that technical stuff than I would.

Save your money and buy a 512 MB DDR2 card, it's almost half the price of that 8800 and is still considered high end hardware.
