Reliable source states General Zod
October 12th, 2007, posted by FofR | Digg This

The ever informative and interesting Quint over at AICN has heard some rumors circulating about the next Superman movie involving one particular actor from Superman I and II reprising his role. I’ll let Quint Continue…

This [source] has personally observed Bryan Singer at work on VALKYRIE and apparently [Singer] has been putting pressure on one of his cast members to return to his star-making role as a villain in Singer’s SUPERMAN sequel.

That, of course, would be Terence Stamp, the role would be that of General Zod.

Since America seems to have given up all claims to having a set, I'd be willing to be that the 21st century Zod will be a warmer, cuddlier version of the REAL Zod.

What, Zod and Bush have a lovefest because their cut from the same cloth and Superman brings them both down?

For the love of God NO!!!!!!!!!!

Superman has SO many better villians.   I know Dakrseid was claimed for JLA and Imperiex was used in the "Legion of Superheros" cartoon but what about Brainiac?  Mongul?  Parasite?  Doomsday (okay, he's lame)?

If they bring Zod back, it has to be a recast.  Superman returns only takes place 5 years after Superman II.  While a new younger superman has been cast, Stamp has aged 30 years.  By the way, has anyone else seen Superman II the Richard Donner Cut.  It is so much better.

Haven't seen the Donner cut yet, But I do agree with Die Hard. So many other villians. Zod was cool as hell back in his day though. Hmm. Parasite, I had forgot about him. That might be interesting on the Big Screen.

The Richard Donner cut is much more tied in with the first film, which was shot at the same time.  It also has more Gene Hackman because Hackman was angry with how the Salikands had treated Donner and refused to participate in the reshoots.  That's also why he didn't participate in that vile film Superman III.  More importantly however, all of the Brando footage has been restored, completing the Kryptonian prophecy as the son becomes the father and the father becomes the son.

Personally, I doubt Warner would commit to it, but I'ld like to see a film trilogy about the death and return of superman.

That would be nice. Who knows, If they ever get t he JLA film off the ground, IT would give some Room for The Life and Death of Superman.

I recently re-read the comics from a decade ago.   the fight against Doomsday and Superman's actual death was very lame, but the "Reign of the Supermen" was amazing.  It would have to be done as a mini-series to be done right and they would have to include the other DC characters.  Don't wuss out like they did with that cartoon, show everything.  The destruction of Coast City would make "Indepence Day" look like a silent film.

One "must see" fight in particular is Hal Jordan (Green Lantern) kicking the snot out of Mongul with the "yellow vulnerability" still in effect.
