I assume there is a reason you are running Win 98?
I remember FAT file system has problems recognizing partitions with too large a HD (i thought the limit was 4 GB?)
I wonder if you are having a similar problem?
So, my first question: if your File system FAT or FAT32? If it's FAT, you might think about converting to FAT32.
and Second suggestion, perhaps you should upgrade from win98... Perhap Win ME (I know it's a POS, but it's a better POS than 98) Or better yet Winxp (XP will run on that spec perhaps a little slower but I think the improvements will be worth it.)
hey now, be nice- w98 is a great OS (especially if you still use DOS).
Anyhow, I've seen this prob before.
With a 90 gig partition good 'ole 98 only see's about 4 gig of it because of some built in limit ( I forget the particular file but I'll post the info when I remember what the name is) to one of the sys files. There's a fix posted on MS's site somewhere which suggests that you upgrade to win2K (ME) I believe but a file from the ME install disk dropped into the w98 folder fixes it. Still I can't remember the file name but it's always worked for me.
Anyhow, the 'legit' fix would be to:
A: create another partition with Fdisk- a dos partiton NOT in the main partition and assign it a new drive letter, you'll be able to add a bunch of new drives and you can manage them as if they we completely seperate hardware devices,
or
B: most new hi cap drives come with a setup disk- most have a BIOS overlay that will allow w98 to read the full capacity of the drive, so try installing that. I've used it a couple of times but after learning the trick from the ME file replacement I use that. I'll pull out my ME disk and find that file for you but option B can fix your problem in a crunch.
