AOTK3: Non-Binding Battleship Poll
« on: May 01, 2007, 02:24:36 pm »
This will ultimately be decided by me but I want some feedback as to how the community feels about having BBs on the server.

Though I myself do not like flying Battleships, I understand why some do.   Some races, take the ISC and Klingons for example, have rather crappy DNs but excellent BBs.  Allowing them to field the BBs is a better use of their “points” for capital ships.

I remember on SGO6 the tension in the air whenever 2 BBs were on the board and in battle with each other.   As Kirk says, this is Poker not Chess and sometimes you have to up the ante for the game to be exciting.

Below are their relation in the “points” scale which is loosely based on the F&E costs.  I have not decided yet wheter or not we will be using Cost of Build OOB or Points at a time, but with the reduced player numbers Cost of Build OOB just seems silly as even with really low point counts we’d still have way more capital ships built than we have players.

BCH       2 Points
DN       3 Points
CVA       4 Points
BB        8 Points
BBV      10 Points
Super BB    10 Points
Super BBV    12 Points

And how many are to be made? Can each side fly as many? Can buy as many? Do you have a 'Shin' rule about an anonymous player pissing one away?

You can make as many as you have points.

It will be points on at a time like we've used for the past few servers.  I'm thinking 10-12 Capital ship points by the time late era rolls along, so you can either field 2 DN and a CVA or that BBV.   You decide.   No side will have enough points to field more than 1 BB at a time.

Do you have a 'Shin' rule about an anonymous player pissing one away?

Is this realy needed?  It's funny as hell but do we really need it?  I think whoever flys capital ships should be up to the RM's discretion.

As many times as people have PP for it.

Here's what I'm thinking so far.  Basic BBs avaialble for all races which will take up say 8 points (BCH=2, DN=3, CVA=4) of the "X amount of points on at a time" system.   The Klingons can field the B11K for 10 points if they choose.

10 Points is what I'm thinking the Max heavy Metal points at a time will be so fielding a BB really is putting all youe eggs in one basket.   This fits with our current player population but I will reserve the right to increase this if for some reason 40 players start showing up.

If we do have battleships, which I would prefer that we didn't, to discourage BB joy-riding, could you make the BBs really expensive, with a replacement value of 50%.  I don't know if the replacement ship % is a general value for all ships, or if you can set each ship individually.

My thought here is that the loss of a battleship should be devastating.  Not only to the player prestige points, but to the side (VC PvP special award pts).

Just my anti-battleship thoughts.   :P

It's something Dizzy and I were BSing about a few weeks ago.   It would allow the SC of each side the ability to void 1 VC kill a server for circumstances like when a n00b foolishly looses a BB or soemthing like that.  Anyone remember Risky's "Gone with the Shin" incident on SGO5?

Or when Shin lost a G-CVA to DM6 (in a D5D) & I (in a D5C)... all while having a Lyran Wingman (L-CWLPf IIRC) and a few bases with lyran PF's supporting him?

All I really remember is all those damn PF's b/c of Dizzy's tinkering with base and planet missions.... ( think it was 16 Gorn fighters and 18 lyran PF's all told)

I don't remember Risky's incident, but I certainly remember mine when Kroma suckered me into attacking his Gorn DNH on the Gorn homeworld hex when I was in the ISC BBV.  DOH!!  ::)  Of course that happned AFTER a mission when Chuut pushed me into a planet while SUPPOSEDLY escorting me.  His infamous backstab move didn't count because the mission was bugged, but it was a brief respite to say the least. :P I've certainly learned the lesson of how much attention the battleship gets once they leave the shipyard.  O  (and how much of an idiot I can be at times!!  :o )

I'm not really going to have this rule, it's a joke.
