LOL, I was just thinking of you actually when I read this...

How to take a screenshot
---

Windows:
push PrintScreen key
load Paint (Start -> Run -> mspaint -> OK)
Edit -> Paste
File -> Save As...

File name: (any name you want)
Save as type: JPEG

Mac:
Command-Shift-4
(Apple key + Shift + 4)

A target cursor will appear.
Drag it across the region you want to screenshot, then click.

(Screenshot will be saved to your Desktop)

Linux:
download package gnu-gscreenshot-x86-4.0.1.0.04.07_13.tar.bz2
tar -xjf gnu-gscreenshot-x86-4.0.1.0.04.07_13.tar.bz2
cd gnu-gscreenshot-x86-4.0.1.0.04.07_13
./configure; make config && make && make install
modprobe gnu-gscreenshot-x86-4.0.1.0.04.07_13
restart x server
edit /etc/X11/xorg.conf and add the line:
ScreenShot: /usr/local/bin/gnu-gscreenshot-x86-4.0.1.0.04.07_13
recompile kernel
reboot
gksudo apt-get -c dist-upgrade
sudo fsck
give up
reboot into Windows
follow "Windows" directions above

(the preceding is a joke; if you know Linux, you probably don't need
my help to take a screenshot)

OpenSuSE Linux 10.1.

Cntrl-PrtScrn (copies screen) (or Shift-PrtScrn to copy just the current window)
open GIMP (GNU Image Manipulation Program)
Cntrl-V (inserts image) ( or Edit -> Paste if you prefer mousing) (works across desktops - did Windows add that yet?)
File -> Save As..
File name: (any name you want)
Save as type: JPEG (or any other of a vast number of image types.)

Oddly for my version of Windows (2000Pro) MS-Paint only lets me save in different varieties of .bmp (did they improve that later?).  Bitmaps tend to be rather large I'd rather use a professional format like JPEG, PNG or even GIF.

Things change.

It occurs to me that I shouldn't have posted it as it might give some of our Dyanverse and Forum operators ideas ...

A List of some of my favourite resutls from the excuse generator:

PEBKAC (Problem Exists Between Keyboard And Chair)
Support staff hung over, send aspirin and come back LATER.
Your computer's union contract is set to expire at midnight.
Sysadmins busy fighting SPAM.
User was distributing pornography on server; system seized by FBI.
Bad cafeteria food landed all the sysadmins in the hospital.
Evil dogs hypnotised the night shift
root rot
We need a licensed electrician to replace the light bulbs in the computer room.
LBNC (luser brain not connected)
That function is not currently supported, but Bill Gates assures us it will be featured in the next upgrade.
Communist revolutionaries taking over the server room and demanding all the computers in the building or they shoot the sysadmin. Poor misguided fools.
Me no internet, only janitor, me just wax floors.
Dyslexics retyping hosts file on servers
The mainframe needs to rest. It's getting old, you know.
You must've hit the wrong any key.
Plasma conduit breach
Mouse has out-of-cheese-error
Of course it doesn't work. We've performed a software upgrade.
We've picked COBOL as the language of choice.
Mailer-daemon is busy burning your message in hell.
Packet held up at customs.
Your cat tried to eat the mouse.
the daemons! the daemons! the terrible daemons!
Smell from unhygienic janitorial staff wrecked the tape heads
no "any" key on keyboard
Do unto others as Frey has done unto you.
