Thanks fellas, i may yet still work on the original design, but i am liking this "Hollis J Woods " design, and i dont think it has been done for ingame use for BC or SFC, please correct me if im wrong.

After speaking to fallen warrior and adonis on MSN (Before it cut out) we had a decision made on texturing plus adonis gave me some hints to refine the mesh further and i am doing that now.

Yes, it has been done before:

But this was earlier on in my work.  Have yet to revisit it..

But you can download it here..

http://outalance.battleclinic.com/atheorhaven/html/_sgg/m3m3s2_1.htm

But for the record, I also really like your original design, *plus* the second mesh.  Please release both..  :D

You have that Marge Simpson mesh by any chance?  I remember it was floating around somewhere.  Also, any Transformers models for SFC?  Never knew if there were any.

I have finished the mesh now, it stands at a hefty 5200 Polys... but i stand by it. ;D
Thanks to adonis for the advice on the mesh improvments.. i have all the colours hexed out onto a palette, and am gonna go with simplified standard defiant panelling in a tos colour scheme as suggested by fallenwarrior.

Keep watching this space :)

Going to ask now.. when you release it, would you mind if I try a retexture? :) Have some ideas that I'd like to try with it that I'd been meaning to try with Hollis'...

Definately, after the help you have provided so far, i will give you thw model in max format with the uvw mapping applied if you like so you can start with me.. should be mapped out 2nite..

I have spent 4 hours today, refining the mesh futher. it is now 100% squeeky clean, i noticed when i was mapping that their where some small overlaps and the like, when i went into detail on the model, after the boolean operations their where plenty of areas that needed fixing and cleaning up, so its horrible nitty gritty work but its now done and the mesh is sweet.. so i am now mapping it out  :)

Ok so 50% are gonna say.... "hey thats not a TOS colour scheme??!!"

Well the "U.S.S. CONSTITUTION  NCC-1700"  by Jason “Vektor” Lee

Was made to show the actuall colour and true potential  of a  Matt Jefferies design back in 1966.

probably one of the biggest models of all time.... so if his colour scheme is ok..... then im sticking with it...

AGREEABLY IT DOES LOOK LATE TOS EARLY TMP  ;)

please feel free to comment and discuss, and even argue..  ;D

When it comes to fonts, best to do a google search for star trek fonts.  There's a font pack out there with just about every single Star Trek themed font made.  In fact, I'll attach it to this post for you.

As for insignias and such, most people take a little creative liberty sometimes when making a new class.

I like the preliminary textures.  Looking sharp.  My only thought is the blue color.  Seems a little out of place for me, but that's just me of course.  I can't quite explain it.  Just doesn't feel TOS to me, but if what you're going for is a late TOS class, where the color scheme was being changed during the transition to TMP, then by all means, keep doing what you're doing.

Overall, keep posting updates to this baby.

So, on the original defiant to two indents on the rear are shuttlebays apparently? so im gonna texture them accordingly, also the lip below bridge dome, is their enough room to odd one or two windows on a ship of this size realistically... I want this to be spot on and am in need of technical help on scaling etc  ;)

thanks

I'd say slightly smaller than the TNG counterpart, about 95-100m's long. The TNG Defiant has two sets of small windows on each aft upper side of the deflector "head" and some circular ones on the bottom inset walls. I'd also suggest you take a look at the TOS Connie for clues about stenciling and stuff.
Easy is the path to wisdom for those not blinded by themselves.

The Definats shuttlebay is on the underside, so far the paint job looks great, my 2pence: your bussards should be a bit more washed out

kinda like what chiefbrex did with this
other than that its progressing nicely

Agreed on both points.. the bussard as it is looks like it's running pretty hot (but then again, this is roughly the yellow of the Star Trek: Legacy bussards)..

So there's precedence, but personally, I like them better redder.  ;)

I'm not a fan of retconning designs. I'm really not. The whole idea rubs me up the wrong way.

That said, this ship is absolutely friggin' beautiful. She is expertly built, her components are in proper proportion to each other (managing to completely avoid the horrible blockiness of the 3d renders of larger and smaller SFB ships), and she just looks right.

Although I do agree that the bussard nacelle caps would look far better in that faded, white-dappled reddish pink that the latest TOS Constitutions are wearing.

While she will never be in my "official" Star Trek lineup even as a super-duper top-secret highly-advanced prototype, I still want her to take for a spin around the Klingon Empire  :D

Hmmm... maybe I can incorporate it with a technobabble reason... like the Dauntless NX-01-A from VOY. A cunning plan by the Blackadderites to trick an isolated Fed crew...

Hmmm...  ;D

Additional:

Since you're retconning the Defiant, what would you say to retconning all the late TNG/DS9/VOY ships into highly detailed TOS-style ships. Like a theme pack for SFC? Redo the Akira, Norway, Sabre, Steamrunner, Intrepid, and Sovereign classes the same way you've remodelled the Defiant here?

Actually, the windows you show appear to be scaled about right.. the best way to check is to remember that the shafts behind the bridge will be carrying people, and that should help for your scaling.  :)

I don't want to piss on the parrade BUT there is NO TOS defiant. To create new designs on Gene's original vision is a farse, Defiant is a TNG desing PERIOD.Just like the Galaxy, and Sovereign etc. Just as Excelsior and Oberth and Miranda are TMP designs PERIOD. Maybe people that didn't grow up with the original series will buy it, but those who did won't. Don't build a design for the sake of building it. There WAS NEVER nor will there EVER be a TOS Defiant.
It NEVER existed.   Show me ONE just ONE TOS design that comes anywhere close to a defiant design. ANSWER: YOU CAN'T. Trust me I am the king of Frankenstein bashes , BUT even I know the limits. Yes you have mad skills for meshing, BUT the design is a farse and will ALWAYS be a farse, and if my beliefs make me enemies so be it. SO again..THERE WAS AND WILL NEVER BE A TOS DEFIANT.

-now I expect my Karma rating to drop....so go for it   >:(

I have washed out the buzzards and am applying more detail to the textures, the details in thereselves will be more faded and harder to see than they are currently.

Modelsplease, if it floats your boat to come into my thread and slam the design of the ship then i reckon your in the wrong place i did not design it, im just building it.
personnaly i feel the design is fun and its quirky, im doing a good job and am enjoying it, i want it to look right and i want people to like it.

Im not trying to change the face of trek here, im not saying it is right or wrong. What im saying is that these models are for fun.

everyone is entitled to their opinion. modelsplease, you feel free to express urself  ;) Everyone else, thanks for your ideas and input im applying them as i go, and the time you guys take in ur replies is appreciated.
Its Now Sat afternoon, time for some slurpies, have a good weekend fellas  ;)

LOL and as I figured my Karma dropped  :D. Congrats to whoever did it, I hope it made ya feel like a man.

There was no disrespect intended toward you Geks, I've just been around this community for a long time and frankly I'm tired of people trying to turn TNG and TMP designs into TOS ones, and vice versa. A design (In my eyes) loses something when we ( as a community) belittle it and try to recreate it in an era in which it was NEVER designed to be in.

And to whoever decided to attack my Karma, keep it coming little boy, when you can match anyone here in the community with model releases, and conversions I may take it to heart, till then lmaooooooooooo, it means NOTHING. All it did was show your ignorance and immaturity  :P

Peace

Both the Excelsior and Miranda Classes are TMP/TNG designs. While they originated during the movie era, they were seen and used alot during the TNG era, both refitted versions and non-refitted versions.

While there never was a TOS Defiant Class seen in the series, does not proclude the ability of there ever being such a design. The main reason why all Fed ships during TOS were Constitution Classes, was because during the 60s it would have been too expensive to design and build different models for different ships. The "USS Defiant" of the TOS era could very well have been a different design then what was seen. I find it hard to believe that the entire Federation Starfleet's only ship design was the Constitution Class (which by gaming standards was a cruiser). There would always have to be ships of varying roles and specifications, such as scouts, destroyers, frigates etc.
