Why would you deny yourself the greatness that is high speed?

I mean, sure it can be a bitch sometimes, but the slowest DSL (Which is like 19 bucks where I live) is still 10-20 times faster than dialup.

SBC supports linux computers.

(Who is SBC?  Remember I'm in Canada.)

Its not the money.

The DSL thing is on principle.  When Bell Canada decided to create Sympatico as its wholey owned subsidiary  ISP they went around to all the independent ISPs and tried to massively raise their rates for renting lines from Bell - in violation of existing contracts.  The ISPs started a class action against them and won.

Now last I saw they (Sympatico) require you to use Windows (and IE) and install their software rather than just use industry standards.  Do you think that they still support Win2k (or Firefox and Thunderbird?) or that I'll let some bumbling telephone installer put software in my computer?  Some of the installers want to install a network card in the system.   They also are well known for leaving your system functional as far as internet access is concerned - any other software you may have installed that they mess up is your problem.  NO WAY is that going to fly with me.

Cable Internet is set up in a rather confusing fashion at present if you don't have at least basic cable (and my loathing of commercials means I gave up cable years ago).  Not to mention getting hammered by all the infected systems on your local loop.  Try to install Windows while connected to your cable internet without a good hardware firewall and you system will be compromised before the install is complete.  They are Linux friendly though as they use industry standards.

At some point I'll get annoyed with dialup and go cable unless something else better by my standards comes along.  Or Bell will annoy me fatally and I'll go cable and have them remove my 2nd phone line.

Ah, you're pretty much boned then. Sorry =(

You also have the added benefit of your testicles glowing in the dark. Think of it! No more stumbling around in the dark at 1am to go the bathroom!
