I don't believe in PC "Software" firewalls.

I prefer mine of the Network device type.
One thing to understand about network routers is that they filter in only one direction. They'll stop unwanted requests from coming in, but if your computer gets compromised and it starts sending out unwanted information (or you have a legit program that sends info out without your knowledge or permission) the network router-thingy won't treat it any differently than any other outbound data.

Currently I am using ZoneLabs Security Suite (plus a router-thingy). Zonelabs Security Suite seems to work well enough and wasn't too expensive.

The easiest thing to do to keep yourself from being infected is to use a browser other than Internet Explorer. And don't run any '.exe' or anything ActiveX.

I have been using an four year old version of Norton Internet Security and am finally wanting to update to a newer//better setup. What works best for you?

No firewall if you play OP.

Well, I had to uninstall the Security Suite as it was making my system lock up on bootup. I get to the log in screen and can't even get my password in as it completely freezes. This happened a number of times after about a day of installation, sometimes on reboot after installation. I did this several times just to make sure it wasn't just a bad install. I even started up in safe mode and ran the install and it still locked up when I tried to start normally. Zonelabs told me to stop all the startups and services from starting up automatically and try that. If it works then I am to add a couple/few at a time until it locks up as that will, hopefully tell me what the conflict is. I havne't had the time to mess with it yet. I have installed the free AVG for the time being just so I have some protection and I can tel lyou that it is much less of a resource hog as ZoneAlarm. which was to be expected.
Only in America .....do we use the word 'politics' to describe the process so well: 'Poli' in Latin meaning 'many' and 'tics' meaning 'bloodsucking creatures'.
