SFC II on Windows 7: no stars in the background
« on: January 04, 2010, 11:22:47 am »
Hello,

After many years of being away from SFC, I just installed SFC II on my new Windows 7 PC and everything runs well except that I'm getting no stars in the background with my GTX 285 video card. I'm using the latest video drives, but I can't get the stars to show up. Anyone else getting stars to show up on their Windows 7 machine?

Thanks!

#1) Turn off Anti-Virus when installing game.

#2) go back to Game folder and Right click on the game folder and select Properties, Uncheck Read Only, then click on Security tab.. Click Edit button and for each user, system, installer, etc.. (have to do 1 at a time) put check mark into Full Access and click OK, Click OK and when the prompt comes up say All Files and Folders and Click OK again.

#3) Turn off Anti-Virus when Patching game.. If for SFC II EAW, make sure to DL and install the mission fix for Met_7 Script.. the one from patch 2.3.3.6 is bugged. also install the Dynaverse Fix as well (also Firesoul's game fix for the ESG and missing fighter fix).

#4) Do not use the shortcut the game installs to launch game, go into the game directory and find Starfleet.exe or Starfleet OP.exe and right click, select Copy.. go to desktop, right click, and select Paste Shortcut, Right click on Shortcut and Click Compatibility Tab and put checkmark into Run As Administrator and click OK.

Actually I found out that the problem was with the AA settings I had with my GTX 285. It seems that SFC II doesn't like Supersampling AA set so I changed to Combined AA (16xS) and the stars returned.

Sorry fot the waste of time and many thanks for the replies.

Ah, so it wasn't because you forgot use the Bill Gates Windows Super Duper Decoder Ring. ;)

Glad to see that you got it running. AA can definitely mess with older games (and some newer ones too).
