MilkShape Question?
« on: March 31, 2007, 06:44:31 am »
Is that software available on a disk? I don't like downloadable software. Reason is I reimage my hardrive alot. I recently had to switch to firefox as a browser since I still run WIN98 as an OS and I can't upgrade to IE7 unless I have XP. Anyway what happened is I made a new image but had to delete my old image due to lack of HD space. All went well except I forgot about milkshape. I had purchased it years ago and was sent a code to unlock it, only since that was years ago I no longer have the email regarding the code or to proof that I purchased it. This is why I prefer software that comes on a disk.

Don't model much anymore but wanted to see about texturing some of my WIP's. Don't want to DL it again now as I will probably be getting another machine in the next 6 months anyway. So can this be purchased in an actual hardcopy on a CD?

~No I don't actually know how to model but I did stay at a Holiday Inn last night. :P

Unfortunately, you're outta luck.  It's only for download as far as I know.

Have you tried contacting Mete Ciragan? You could PM him on the milkshape forums.

Yeah, contact Mete, he is really good about all of that! He keeps your name on file and knows if you already paid or not. Then, once you get your code, save your code in your e-mail or somewhere where you can always get it. Every time Milkshape comes out with a new version, I burn it to a disk with my registration e-mail so I never lose it.

This is an off topic queston, but he mentioned that he uses "Firefox" for a web browser.  I also use Windows 98 extensively and am curious about this Firefox Browser as I have similar problems about IE7.  Any opinoins about this browser?

as for the Milkshape question, I really feel sorry for ya man.  I use Milkshape quite a bit and really like it for 3d modeling.  Not only do I use it to make SFC models, but I use it for all kinds of 3d artwork.  for a low price 3d app, its well worth the price.  Maybe you should contact the guy and see if you can purchase a CD copy he could send you.

P.S.  At the rate things are going with Microsoft, I'm seriously thinking about installing a Linux OS.  I wonder if SFC can play on any Linux OS's.

Thanks for the replys guys. I think I can get the milkshape thing sorted out by contacting the creator as some of you suggest.

Regarding Firefox. It seems ok so far. I mean it is supported by the sites that I abosolutly need access to. MS no longer supports WIN98 and some of the sites I need to use for business purposes won't support IE6, so what I need to use on these sights won't load anymore with IE6 but they work fine in Firefox. I did find out though that my new laser jet printer won't work while using firefox so I occasionally still need IE6 or I can print out on my ink jet.

I too have a beef with MS as they keep releasing a new OS every 2 to 3 years just when they have gotten the security issues and bugs out of the previous version.  I tried a version of Linux for awhile- not sure which, as at one time there where many different versions. Again the problem was finding drivers to work with hardware that is often geared towards an MS OS.

According to Firesoul, SFC2 & OP can be played at software mode in Linux via Cedega(formaly known as WineX). I've tried SFCOP with WINE but cannot patch it and the performance is poor even in software mode.

WINE - run win32 apps in un*x os without Windows.

Cedega - works like WINE but enhanced in gaming.

The games that only require software rendering(e.g. Away Team), rendered with OpenGL by default(e.g. Elite Force 1/2), or can be set to rendered with OpenGL(e.g. KHG, The Fallen) work better under WINE/Cedega.
