directory servers down?
« on: March 26, 2007, 11:16:29 am »

I'm getting firewall messages from the game, and the serverkit says it can't find the directory servers, so I's guessing they're down ;)

ok, then what's wrong with my setup because I'm getting the firewall error.  Windows firewall turned off, router set to DMZ for this machine, and avast antivirus turned off.
I was never here, you were never here, this conversation never took place, and you most certainly did not see me.

only saw one thing on there that even closely resembled a firewall (filter) and I turned that off too.

Still no-go.

*sigh* Well, not sure...
But, I had a similiar problem for a while... ;)
Turned out, there was a new version of GameSpy out. I had to log into the GSA site and download the update, maybe try that.
That fixed my firewall messages.  ;D
There is also a step by step process listed here, with links for downloads, maybe check it against what you've done.

ok, just checked, and yes, those settings are correct.  Looks like I'm going to be contacting my ISP about taking the d--ks out of their @$$es and letting me use the service I'm paying for.

In that case I should be able to get on through the DMZ of my router with the correct directory server settings.

Hmmm, I recall a post by Bonk stating that Pesty's (otherwise awesome) Enhancement pack was somehow incompatable with OP+4.0 (which came out after)
I don't remember EXACTLY what the issue was, anyone else know?
Might find the thread with a little searching, tho.  ;)

what exactly is incompatible?  OP+4.0 is just a shiplist and models, and the enhancement pack has two model test missions so I would think Firesoul's mod would work great in the pack.

*sigh* that's the thing, I don't remember what the exact nature of the the problem was.
The Enhancement pack does actually have a bunch of stuff with it other than OP+4.0 and some models, tho... ;)
Only that Bonk had strongly recommended not to use the pack, but to use his thread and links instead.
And, I have discovered that Bonk really knows his s*** when it come to this sort of stuff and trust his recommendations.
I did actually try a couple searches for this info, but, after 45 min of quick-reading dozens of threads, I was unable to find the thread he posted about it.
I was hoping someone with a better memory than me would post with the more technical aspects of the issue with Pesty's Enhancement pack actually.
And, with my basically trial and error knowledge, I'm not even sure if it's the source of your problem.  ::)
I'm rapidly running out of ideas to help ya... :-\

I use Pesky's pack with no problems, but I also had done directory server patch as well.  I have had no problems.

Well, in spite of not being able to find the exact nature of the issue, I did find this post from Bonk:

The Enhancement pack 4 is broken - do not use it.

This thread is overkill and outdated. The Directory servers list is incomplete among other issues...

Please use this thread:

the only thing broken with that enhancement pack is the scripts installer. Get another scripts installer from elsewhere and it's fine.
