Who Would You Want As Your Sidekick?
« on: March 09, 2007, 09:23:36 pm »
There are many great sidekicks in movies and literature: Robin (Batman and Robin), Garth (Wayne and Garth) and Sancho Panza (Don Quixote) just to name a few; that stick by their friend's sides through thick and thin.

If you had the choice of anyone to be your sidekick, who would it be?

For me, no one beats R2D2. Just how many times did he pull the fat out of the fire anyway?

1) Always there in a pinch.

2) Always prepared for any contingency.

3) Never complains.

4) Gets the job done.

5) Willing to sacrifice himself for the mission or the cause.

6) Saves you from things you don't even know are dangers.

7) Always has your back.

 ;D

I want Sidney Poiter,

All those things and more, and probably the best black actor known.

I remember him well from "To sir With Love" and "Duel at Diablo."

Believe it or not, his movie made me want to complete high school.

Emma Peel (the original version 1965-1967 Avengers).

Brilliant (knows topics from astronomy to nuclear physics and biology), beautiful, master of armed/unarmed combat and loyal.

KITT

Witty, loyal, and sees people who mistreat their cars as target practice ;D

And what's better than a sidekick that's a car?  He's like R2-D2 and Obi Wan Kenobi rolled up into one!  Inside a shell of a black 1984 Pontiac Trans AM at that!!

Not a sidekick, but as a posse, Chuut would keep anyone laughing at his sarcasm of our mess of a govt. and I can only imagine the lyrics going through his head when he hears a tune that fits his mood.  ;D

Yea, but I don't think I would want KITT to be my super-intelligent sidekick car. I mean the damn car nagged as much as a woman, I'm thinking it had some sort of sick man crush on Hasslehoff. I tend to think of it as a slightly less prissy/gay version of C3PO

Bruce Lee from the Green Hornet show. Not only would he keep me and my big mouth safe, he also does house hold chores.

Ah Frell.  All this discussion of Kitt has made me think of seeing David Hasslehoff wearing drags in the Las Vegas production of The Producers.  I am scarred for life after seeing him play the gay director, wearing a black and silver evening gown and wearing a red wig (not to mention his big ass hands in long white evening gloves).

As for my sidekick I pick Robin.  Really, what else would you expect from me except to choose the 'Boy Wonder'?  I mean come on here...Batman has one long series of failed relationships with women, his 'ward' and 'nephew' lives with him, an old guy butler, and a secret elevator to a secret dungeon, um cave, with lots and lots of toys.

Well, maybe not KITT, so much as SIObahn (Seville Integrated Operator).  That would be my STS after an intensive and invasive upgrade using a Mac Mini as the brain.

I don't think she's have any use for Turbo Boost or a grappling hook, but those lasers are mighty tempting ;D

Thank you.  I was beginning to worry about the guys here.  Wanting robots and other guys as a sidekick :smackhead:?  How Trekkie can they get?

At least with TheJudge I undestand him choosing a guy but the rest of them?  :smackhead:  If they were going Star Wars couldn't they at least have chosen Leia?

Who said sex slave?  Emma Peel is expert in unarmed combat, it would be exceedingly dangerous to your genitals to attempt to enslave her that way and in her own words she is "thoroughly emancipated".  In one episode where she is going through the espionage files of an unnamed eastern block country (implied to be Russia) she finds pictures of various agents including herself, on the back of her picture is the remark "extremely dangerous don't handle at all" which should tell you just how dangerous she is as an amateur spy.

Robin may be underage (didn't look it but the way the character was referred to implied it).  Batgirl (the Yvonne Craig Batgirl) however was a self supporting professional librarian and based her Batgirl exploits out of her own apartment, definitely a legal adult.

Robin's at least 18...that's legal.  Batman wouldn't let him go out until he was 18 so now I can have him.  If I really wanted to torture you folks, I'd post the pictures I took of the Robin in Six Flags Vallejo.  I swear the bulge was just...well let's just say my partner had to hand me a napkin.

:smackhead: BatGirl played by Yvonne Craig was not under age. She was a college graduate and a librarian as I recall, on top of being comissioner Gordon's daughter.  I add a little blurb from craig's profile:

During Batman's final season, she played the petite librarian Barbara Gordon, daughter of Police Commissioner Gordon, who secretly rode a wild motorcycle after hours as the crime-fighting Batgirl.

This is a tough call, but I'd have to go with Ian Chesterton (companion to the first Doctor Who, science teacher, solid, brave, and resourceful), or Sarah Jane Smith (companion to the 3rd and 4th Doctor Who's, journalist, plucky, brave, and clever).  For the Who impaired, I've attached a couple of pictures.

(By the way, the 3rd serial of the new Doctor Who starts March 31st.  Be ready.)

Speaking of klingons... In your sig you say;

What's a "femal"?   :P :-*

OK, so Batgirl is actually a grown woman. I can go with that, but I think a female (note to DH!!!) sidekick would be dangerous for me because while I was checking out her ass I'd probably fall off a building or something.

After you realize that you are behind her going up the building and she has a miniskirt on the fall might be a relief.

The other day I was awakened (I don't know by what) and for once remembered dreaming.  In it I was in the Firefly Universe with my own large up to date freighter attempting to recruit  Kaylee as my engineer.  It got me thinking who else would I want to recruit?  I assumed that I could use any TV or movie character assuming that they had skills of the appropriate type.

Captain/Owner - Me

First Officer - Susan Ivanova, Babylon 5.
Security - Purdey, The New Avengers.
Helm - Barbarella, From the movie of the same name.
Communications - Hoshi Sato, Star Trek Enterprise.
Doctor - Janet Frazier, Stargate SG-1.
Purser/Trader - Mrs. Emma Peel, The Avengers (1965-67)
Engineer- Kaylee Frye. Firefly
Cook/Chef - Mary Ann Summers, Gilligan's Island.

Ok so its an all female crew.  ;)

I wonder who (or what) everyone else would recruit given the same parameters?

Giselle Bundchen, to fill all of the time between villains.   8)  She could have every other weekend off when Angelina Jolee comes over to clean.

Who would I want as my senior staff on a starship...

Captain: Me
First Officer/Tactical: Malcolm Reed
Helm: Tom Paris
Doctor: Janet Frazier
Engineer: Scotty, of course
Science: Samantha Carter
Operations: Data
Counselor:  Would be banned from being a Counselor, but I still want Ezri on my ship ;)

If your going with military/exploration ships like the Enterprise then I do have some changes.

Captain - Me

First Officer/Tactical - Susan Ivanova, Babylon 5.
Science Officer - Maya, Space 1999
Security - Mrs. Emma Peel, The Avengers (1965-67)
Helm - Barbarella, From the movie of the same name.
Communications - Hoshi Sato, Star Trek Enterprise.
Doctor - Janet Frazier, Stargate SG-1.
Engineer- (I'll have to think about this one.  Kaylee just is useless in combat)
Cook/Chef - Mary Ann Summers, Gilligan's Island.

Science and security officers would work together as both have talents that the other can use.  Should avoid the pesky "alien takes over the ship with unknown talent/technology" problem.
