Calling for a Letter of Marque.
« on: March 05, 2007, 11:30:37 pm »
Some of you may have noticed I'm a pirate.  I've signed up with the Coalition as a Klingon, but it's not written in stone.  I'm officially putting myself up for hire as a mercenary for either side.  Price:  10 pieces of gold.  Arrrrrrrrr.

I'll probably agree to player requests, as long as they are few and far between, to put players into whatever pirate cruiser they want. Note that engine doubling will likely be disabled, so I'll probably boost the APR by 10% for pirate ships. This is a probably... not gonna say for sure it will happen.

I don't need to be in a pirate ship.  I had imagined I would fly the race of the bidder's choice.

I dont think I'm making pirate races flyable. I can edit and put your alliance or coalition account in a pirate ship, however.

That sounds like a lot of trouble for you.  It also sounds like I wouldn't be able to pick ships of my own.  If this isn't the case I just might go with it.

There are only a handful of players that like pirate ships. Apparently ur #1. Here's how it works. Everyday I do a DB edit. Takes mb a minute for me to assign a ship. I can assign any ship in the list to any player. Ask Krueg.  :flame:

If I end up getting a bunch of requests, I have no problem doing the 1st 2 or 3 and letting everyone else know that if they didnt get an assigned ship, I didnt have the time and to just deal with it and fly what u can buy. Like I said, there arnt many player who would prefer a Pirate ship over an empire ship, but hey, it can be fun and adds an element of variety. And I'm all for that. If you dont like it, dont worry yourself with it. The 'feature' may be there for those that want to try it.

As the current Gorn Minister of Finance, I would be willing to negotiate a "working relationship" with you.   We, Bruce, are always looking for meddlers......eh, agents to perform certain missions where one of our large cruisers might just attract too much attention.

Please contact me at your first convenience so that we can talk about price and assorted perks you might be willing to trade your piloting talents for.

The BC2 should be easy enough to arrange, but the star might take a little time.  How about a nice hoola girl  that you can stick up on the front control panel instead?   ;D

1) Fly Lyran
2) Ram everything in sight.

I like to think I'm a little more elegant than that.

More elegant! What's not elegant about the lawn mower! Ye have insulted generations of Lyrans that use a time honoured, true and true method of blowin crap up... I recommend ye install a rear view mirror on what ever bucket 'O pirate bolts you fly... as the only "marque" ye be getting from the Lyrans will be the quick energy slashes from our ESGs to your feeble hull... look quickly before your hull collapses into the cold black emptiness of space...Ah! Sweet ramming ESGs goodness... Muhahahah!  :flame:

Unless of course you are on our side... in that case we got your six. ;D

Put the pirate BC up on a spread sheet. It's junk. Maybe I'm dreaming, but if soreyes shows up in his DF, run.

Ya know, Alpha, I've been thinking about bounty awards.   I think it would be most useful, gamewise, if the hiring player contributed prestige points to the pirate for each kill.   Say 1000 pts.   More for kills against certain pilots l (like, say, Hexx) to make things more interesting.   It seems like there has been enough improvements in prestige point editing to support this idea.

Of course, all kills would have to be verified with screenshots.

What do you think about that?

I don't fly junk.  I just like flying something that gives me a challenge (and looks cool).  It's a thrill taking down an enemy in a D6--the blood races, the heart pumps, the hands sweat.  And there's not an inch of error margin--every shot and missile is critical.  In fact, if I was flying Federation this time, I'd stick with a plain old F-CA.  It takes a real pilot to fly that stuff and like it.

Agave, I like the sound of that.  It sounds fair.  If I'm reading it right then I would work for a variety of Empires, rather than be on retainer to just one.  I'll have to get instructions on how to retrieve a screenshot for posting.  I'd like some other function outside PvP so I can play with some effect when no one else is on.  I'm very open to suggestions on what that might be.  It also occurs to me that comms might be tricky with myself being one of a tiny handful of pirates on.

Dizzy:  can we talk about buying ships?  I'm sure I'll get blown up at some stage (or several stages) and will need a new ship.  I'm not sure how that would work.

Posting a screenshot is not that hard.  We can talk about that later.

As for other functions you could be doing instead of PvP, you could be awarded points for just about anything.  Cutting a supply line, destroying a base, taking a planet, whatever you think someone might be willing to pay for.  As with bounties, negotiations of what something might be worth will happen.   I'll open to all ideas.  I really like the idea of an independent force affecting the map.

And, of course, you would not be working for any one race or side.  Money talks (or prestige points in this case), so I'm sure you would be working hardest on the most profitable missions.  With some of the prestige points certain players accumulate, you might start feeling like you are working for the same players most of the time.

Lots of ideas here.
