A design that IMO was definately in need of an updating. Problem was that not too many modelers could have improved upon what was already out there. You've done it though. 8)

Nice Model WZ.  Another fine work of craftsmanship.   :)  Never been much of a "Bird of Prey" fan mostly because the design always felt a bit "Romulanish", but nevertheless a very good model.

Actually, originally the Klingon bird of prey was going to be a Romulan ship. IIRC the original script was supposed to have the BoP stolen from the Romulans by the Klingons and on it's voyage to Klingon space they stumbled across Genesis, etc... The script was leaked so they decided to write that out.

Hey WZ,

Since you've posted pics of the wings "down" and "level", does this mean they move in game?  ;D

From here:

Quote
After seven-to-eight entire years of the existence of the SFC community, we went from just a couple-hundred polygon ships to this. I like it...

I'm sorry, I'm just running out of ways of praising, which is why I usually don't post unless I can find anything to critique, and I can't in this case. Fortunate or not, it's up to the eye of the beholder, but if it takes three years to make a model like this, I believe people will be hard-pressed to find a thing to critique upon, unless they've got careful eyes.

Alternate universe:  Khan was banished for preserving the peace. The Genesis device was really a super weapon and kirk had planned to use it on the klingons. Chekov found the Botany Bay and khan hijakced and killed the evil reliant crew in an effort to destroy the genesis device.    Ahh i love it :D The alternate universe rocks.

Excellent job Wicked Zombie!

It is really hard not to like this version of the BOP.

I have not liked the CANON TREK BOP design in the past for a variety of reasons but this may change my mind.

-The torp launcher has typically either been green (ST3 and ST5 notably), or not lit at all. The later of which is the majority and since they only ever glowed when the ship fired, it would've been more accurate to just black them out. There's also the red ring around the launcher in a couple of TNG eps that blinked when the ship fired.

-It took 3 years because I didn't care about finishing it. Procrastination 101.

-The bulb on the bottom of the hull was where a deflector pulse came from in one of the DS9 eps so that could be a hint to what it is. Anything else is just a guess since there aren't any canon schematics for it.

Bloody hell! I am astonished! How long have I been waiting for a good replacement for p81's venerable offering!?!
It was worth the wait!

Im in awe lol.

EDIT: btw, if were to be picky, the torp launcher is not any colour at all as WZ says - its rather like a protrusion with vanes and a central opening with no glowing effect - if you watch ST3 it seems very much to me that they had intended it to be a plasma launcher in keeping with it's original Romulan origins, as you see a kind of charging up effect, and the 'torpedo' itself forms and fires, and is of a large size in comparison with Enterprise's photons.

Anyhoo !!

but in st3 and st5 the torpedo was fire from under the bridge and there was no pod on the top of the ship?

The Torps have always been fired from the indentation under the bridge.

What "Pod" are you referring to, there's nothing there that wasn't in ST:3 or 5, or any other show/movie where there's been a Bird of Prey...

Look again Don...

It's hard to see but the Pods are clearly there on the ST:3 model...

This is a little fuzzy, but a better angle to see the pods.

I am confused to what exactly you mean about the 'pods'. They are the forward extension to the baffles on each side (which serve as the cooling for the single warp engine, aswell as a means for the wings to contract and extend IRRC). The torpedo weaponry has always eminated from below the bride.

If you don't remember it then you haven't watched the show very often. The shoulder extensions have always been there and every model made for SFC has had them. They were even on the concept model the FX guys made before filming ST3. Also, nobody said anything about the torp launcher itself being wrong, the discussion was just about the color and appearance.

Exhibit A
Exhibit B
Exhibit C

The ones on mine are close to the original (aside from the subtleties in having to build everything by eye and lower detail) and I doubt anyone would have spent so much trouble making them if it wasn't supposed to be there. Heh, six years doing this and people still think we modeler types would miss such an obvious detail. Ah well, at least it distracts from the stuff I really missed...

And yeah, in the TMP movies there was a physical torpedo in the launcher - the cheap fx for ST5 allow you to even see it flying toward the Enterprise. I was speaking in general terms since they seem to have tossed that idea by TNG/DS9.
