C'mon now, you can't give Dizzy a hint, To get his attention, you have to break a cue stick over his head.

Sheesh.

I have no help to offer in preparing a server campaign, so I won't b*tch about how long it has been.  For those who want to b*tch, they should step right up and help people like Dizzy and DH out.

Hey, I'm more then happy to help them out, Just let me know what I can do. I think that Lyre meant this as a joke though. Both are good people who provide a good service here, and I'm not talking about hand jobs Dizzy.

This is the 5th  "where's a server"  type thread he has started in the last few months. It's apparently an old joke.

What kinid of help do they need?

Good question... I'll get back to this one...

But just to let some know, doing a server is work. Much different than just loggin in and playing, doing a server requires a crap load of behind the scenes work and time. You gotta love this game and the players to do that sorta sh*t. While I love the game, I'm not too fond of some of you that dont contributue other than bitch...  ;) But that can change right now.

So here's the help I need:

YOU GUYS come up with RM's and ARM's.

Get a private forum for the two sides going like we did for the last server.

Get your players ready.

Decide on a mission pack. Do we go with an untested pack with Daves new warp missions or the old school. BIG decision there. (I've waited a long time for this community to hammer out these new missions. Are they dyna prime time ready?)

DH and I will get everything else done... if I can pry his fingers away from M2TW.

I don't believe that they are Dyna Ready yet Dizzy.  But Dave's RL is more important that fixing them right now.

Easier to do once we know the sides, Races used, etc.

We've had Coalition and Alliance Storm Season 3 forums up on sfc2.net since...I don't know how long. We could use those.

See first answer.

Unsure of this, I believe we're waiting for ED, but, I agree, RL has to come before some things.
Be patient and give Dave the time he needs to get it done right, rather than push and maybe miss something.  ;)

If the goal is to have a serious server sometime soon [which seems like a good idea - the natives are getting restless!] then I'd recommend going with the older missions.

The new ones are close, but there are still bugs and they desperately need a bigger test crowd to find the hidden ones.  Q and Alpha and DH have done a lot of testing [many many thanks everyone who has been testing!] but we need a bunch of people flying in groups in a variety of races to be sure we've seen all [well, most] of the damn little beasts.  So it could easily be May before I've had another hammer at them.   :-\

Whatever the decision, it's high time to blow some sh*t up!  ;D

I can easily put up forums on SFC2.Net once the sides and RM's have been decided.

The reason SS3 has stalled is simple....rules and time.  The second I mentioned developing the campaign, the "I wont play unless this rule is/is not used" statements started coming in.  Kind of a turn off to putting in that much work.....

Also, I do not have my own equipment to run the server on, and for a while there D.Net was pretty unstable and I didn't think  it could handle the load with the bandwith problems if I atempted to use their server.  I am also working about 60 hours a week right now.

So, I'd say SS3 is not dead, just in hibernation until late spring when I have more time, and can nail down who can host it.

I see the test server hasn't been around in a bit. Perhaps we could put it back up with the latest batch?
Maybe...if we talk real nice, we can even get Frey to host it.  ;D
I wouldn't even object to taking all other OP servers, with only a test server up.  ;)
I might even break out the whips and see if I can't beat some pilots into running some missions there.   :P  :whip:
Rather get the missions worked out, rather than pull missions during the course of a server (been done many times) and listening to the players bitching.  :-\
I know it'll mean a longer delay, but that just gives all the admins more time to do their thing... ;D

What about getting a quick and dirty campaign up using the scripts.  I wouldn't mind a number of short campaigns like "Errand of Mercy...Without Kirk."  Or "The Enterprise Incident...gone bad."  How about: "Arena...with Romulans."  Find one with the Hydrans and the ISC and we should be able to get everything tested.

FYI: Talked to dave and we will use the old mission pack.

Here's another repeat for the help I need:

1.) YOU GUYS come up with RM's and ARM's.

Krueg complained that RM's cant be chosen till sides are agreed... I say no because there are only a few individuals that can get their player base going and form a cohesive group that will actually show up for a server. So these few guys need to talk about the sides and arrange a cpl ideas and I'll go off that. To say it plain, I'm not picking the sides from scatch. RM's send me a cpl ideas.

2.) Get a private forum for the two sides going like we did for the last server.

3.) Get your players ready.

Thats funny, Jeff... I think you are too friendly with these guys and they mistake that friendship thinking they can take advantage of it and have the server their way without regard for the balance issues you face when having to concede to their warped pov. The only person I ever remember telling me that they wouldn't play unless a rule was there/not there/changed was *****. Course he had good reason. He interpreted the last disengagement rule of 7 hexes to be a 7 hex DIAMETER. Now, I can't multiply hexes very well, but lets just say thats about a 5th of the map, lol. 7 hexes meant the hex you're in and those adjacent. Guess the guy stopped reading the rule after the 1st few words, lol. Guess he was too shocked to read the remainder after it dawned upon him the worng way. I thought that was pretty damned funny... I even had to send the guy a PM explaining it to, haha. Oh, and tool. But he complains life and death about everything every server... :P But that's a good thing. This dude actually knows about balance.

I "complained"...*re-reads post* lol I didn't complain, I made a comment... ;D
There is always the possibility that some may step up for a RM/ARM position based on what race is on that side. Players may also wait to decide what side to fly with based on what races are on that paticular side. Seen it happen that way.
Didn't realize it was taken as "complaining"

All we'd need to do for forums is rename the SS3 ones on sfc2.net.
