Flying Manta rays

saw this vid over at U-Tube, thought you guys might like it. While pretty, they are not the most gracefull animal out there.

While it may seem like child's play, those things can go through an anchor rope faster than Superman. Then think of what they can do to you if they strike you...

wow I didn't know that. I caught a show the other day on one of the Science channels, and they where talking about 400lb Mantas' , they even showed them taking around 6 hours catching a 200lb one.

They just fascinate me. still I'd rather swim with a Manta, then jellyfish. those kinds of scientist are insane.

I got stung by a jellyfish once down in Jamaica. Wasn't the most pleasant feeling.

I've heard that it was one of the most painfull experiences ever. Modern pain killers don't work, etc. I still remember that wierd foot shuffle walk when I used to do scuba diving. To remove Jellies, and stingrays while entering from a beach.

Vinegar works to some extent or so I'm told.  In absence of that I'm told that a person can urinate on the affected area of the body or have someone else urinate on that affected part of the body.  It is supposed to reduce the pain and swelling.  Can't say for sure because I've never been stung by a jellyfish.  If anyone here wants to give it a try let me know how everything works out for you.   ;D

meat tenderizer reduces the swelling... a friend of mine got some in his canoe  when he was practicing righting it after capsizing it.  He ended up getting stung on his gumbas.
