OT: Snow!
« on: February 08, 2007, 02:43:35 am »
Woooo, it's been snowing all night and there's about 6 inches laid all over my county and most of midland and southern England! :)

1. means I can't get into work (very hilly here) :)
2. I have to join a conference call instead :(

what is it about people who rarely if ever see snow, that they think they are being deprived...

If I see another foot of snow in the next five years I'll go crazy...

Guys..

I've had snow since October.. I'm sick of snow.  :)

Don't have any shots handy, but Google is a wonderful thing..

Here's a series of shots from Edmonton, plus the city square shot was from a webcam downtown about 3 minutes ago.  :)

I have to admit, I'm abit Jealous of Smiley and Fallen Warrior. Not because of the snow, see it every year, but those fence lines look amazing. All we have is miles and miles of Barbed wire.

Oh, I have lived in places where snow was measured in feet, and yeah, I was tired of it by the end of winter, but the following spring would be so much more meaningful.

Where I live now, the leaves don't change in the fall, we have had two months of straight rain (par for the winter), spring looks like any other season, and summer feels like an endless steam bath. There is no feeling of renewal and rebirth and life is painfully linear.

Thanks for sharing the pictures guys, they bring back a lot of great memories; a smile to my face and warmth to my heart.

I've always wanted to visit Canada - thanks for the images :)
Birmingham is looking distinctly more rural than the usual shots! Are you on the extremities F_W?
Instellar Machine - I don't know how you cope with the climate and seasons that you described, I know I could not. Sounds very monotonous, plus I can't stand it hot! lol

I second this. Oh I don't envy people who have to travel from Point A to Point B when the snow turns to slush and ice or when they have to dig themselves out of it. But I live in sunny Southwest Florida where the leaves are always green, the temp is almost always in the 90's nowadays and every day looks exactly like the day before it. It's like living in a store window display, everything feels fake.

It's a sad day in history when people have become deprived of being snowed-in...c'mon people hole up for the winter and make babies. :D

And when it comes to people who rarely see snow thinking they are being deprived just remember the song goes "I'm dreaming of a white Christmas", not "I'm dreaming of a 98 degree Christmas with 80% relative humidity"

I was dreaming of a white christmas last year...unfortunately, Mother Nature wasn't complying.

I expected to see lots of snow in Michigan over Christmas.  I didn't even need a jacket a couple of days.  Now I hear theres almost six feet of snow on the ground, and I'm in Houston...enjoying 74 degrees.  ;D

I've not seen so much as a smattering of snow in Glasgow this year - just wind and rain and some ground frost.  :-\

Eww...snow...here in North Carolina we had a thankfully brief taste of the white stuff for all of 48 hours which caused pandemonium because we are not used to such weather. Ice storms yeah we have those and know how to handle that but SNOW? Yikes! We had a really big storm a few years back and it took me some 12 hours to get home!

I HATE snow but my 3 year old LOVES the stuff. Elements help me when he figures out how to make snowballs!:D
